Why are cutom avatars not allowed can this forum restrict by size? if it could then surely storing the avatars in personal webspace and linking them in would be ok? any views anyone

Mainly because it just isn't feasible to keep up with everyone's avatar and make sure no one is using something inappropriate.

Plus it would really slow down the site. All offsite hosts don't run at the same speed.

With a name like yours I'd hate to see your avatar.
;)

That's exactly the point. With user-chosen avatars, a forum almost instantly becomes not work (or home when my parents are nearby) safe.

No. You shouldn't where it all the time. But I have forgotten how to say "almost" in Latin. And saying "except when in the shower" would be even trickier. ;)

The phrase literally means "always where under where" - which makes no sense in Latin or English. But it's supposed to be funny. Nevermind, this is way off topic. :)

Then there's the propensity for animated GIFs as avatars, which would drive me crazy. Ok, so I'm a hypocrite... I did ask Zuni for a special Cheetah avatar that blinked its eyes every 30 seconds or so... ;) ...but it Wasn't Going To Happen, I guess. :D As it is, however, the board has a rather classy look to it thanks to the lack of custom avatars or animation.

This one's a good exception though, VERY useful :) --->

If your avatar is so important to you, perhaps you should return to the AOL chat rooms. I hear they let you do just about anything you want.

my vote is for a Pink Hangover Elephant

That gets my vote :)

I see the point though policing x thousands of possible avatars could be a headache.

And you are definatley a miserable hound and not even close to being a happy puppy :)

Animated avatars are the purest evil.

I wish we could have custom avatars here, but like everyone else has said it won't happen.

You wouldn't like my avatar that I use on another site then.

basically, they like to keep an orderly and uniform forum. no offsite images of any sort. it makes their job easier, and makes browsing more consistant and readable.
