I don't have a problems with expletives in general... I remember stepping in dogsht when I was a little girl and I started crying... Mom asked me what was wrong and I told her "I stepped in dogsht". She started getting mad at me for saying a 'bad word' but Dad stepped in a said "Well, that's what it is!" And in truth, the word shat is a proper verb. We as a society have demonized certain words, but because I am not exactly well socialized, I don't really worry too much about it.

The reason why I don't often use them in my posts has nothing to do with religion, morality, blah blah blah. It is because I was taught to find other, more intelligent sounding words to express myself, plain and simple.

When I really feel like cussing, I do it in Spanish. It's much, much more fun and satisying to let 'em rip that way. The funny thing is, I could say one thing to a Cuban and they would have no problem with it. I could say the same thing to a Puerto Rican and all Hades would break loose.

It is all so very relative.

<< I see people write "he11" instead of "hell", wtf is up with that? I've seen a few people around here that are afraid to say "damn" too >>

LOL - thats prolly me. I usually write damn as d@mn, but its only when I'm using damn while joking around. I feel if I'm neffing in a thread and I write:

You are all a bunch of d@mn nefs!

It seems more in-line with the joking nature of the post than:

You are all a bunch of damn nefs!

BUT - if I am flaming away, I write the full thing for words like damn, and substitute the v for the u in other fords, etc.

I modify it b/c I see other people doing it so I assume the real thing will be filtered out.

I too assumed a$$ was filtered.. or else i wouldn't bother:p Filters suck, and "cuss" words are silly things, banning them is just as silly.

Funny how we can still say great person/my lover/i love you/***/beloved patriot/jap/etc.. only words

Aihyah, if you "wouldn't bother" writing "a$$" if you had known "ass" was not filtered, then why did you just write a$$ again?

I just want to know who made up cuss words? and why the hell did they have the power to say that "this list of words is bad?" Who are you to judge what is okay for another human being to say and what is not? I mean, I think that censorship is a joke... Just a way to commercialize the freedom of speech and expression. Europe doesn't come anywhere close to censorship as the US does, and they seem to do okay. I mean with the way languages go, I don't see why one word is different from another word meaning the same thing. Like ass, bum, bum-bum, bottom, glutius maximus, etc. They all mean the same thing, but only one of the words is a bad one? Funny how that works. I just think that long long ago in a land far far away there was this evil king who just wanted to play with peoples minds, so he made up some bad words. it is all a farse really. I cuss, yet i am an intelligent individual, I have a rather hight IQ, but since I say kiss my ass instead of butt that makes me ignorant? I think not. You see, I view it the other way around. Those who don't question things and go with the flow are the ones that can seem ignorant. Who are you to say ass is bad and butt is good? I say they are the same, and I am sure others thin that also. The whole idea of curse words just seems childish to me. A kid can say fukk all he wants but he can't buy an album that says it? just makes no sense. Parents got tired of the responsibility, so they envoked a "parental advisory system." A kid can go to an art museum and see nude art and it is okay, but they can't listen to art that has "curse words" in it? It should be up to the parent what is okay for their kids to see and buy, and no one else. When I was a kid there weren't any parental advisory stickers, and I didn't kill anyone because eminem told me too.

The easiest way to find out if a word is filtered - just type it. If you hit reply it will tell you.
It only sucks that it thinks the song "Push|t" has the s-word in it :(

Aihyah
makes a good point - derogatory terms like "great person" or "i love you" are still allowed, while other words are banned.

The reason I type a$$ is because I was hoping one day it would inspire a thread such as this one.

I can now die a happy man.

Some people just like to be colorful when they type stuff like a$$...

I myself like to type ħ§...

It just adds a little flavor. ;)

This is a funny post! Someone tell me what all the deal is with people getting in trouble or banned for getting around the filter. In other words are people finding ways to actually type cuss words without getting the forbidden word blah? Im not asking how its done but what there actually doing. Just more information because Ive seen it brought up alot and never seen what it acutally does because the thread gets edited so fast. :)

I don't know why some words are deemed cuss words when others, often used with the same emotion, are not, but that was a different thread. When it comes down to it, though, those words are treated differently in our culture, and so I generally choose not to use them. Golly jeepers, guys, c'mon...:) For some people, it's just everyday language, it used to be for me... I think a lot of the swearing issue is people's ability to control their anger. For people who struggle with this, using curses is just one way they vent.
