Okay since i was having stablilty problem with a flipchip 700e with my slot 1 mobo, i went ahea and bought a CUSL2.

NOW i am in even more trouble. the CD-ROM is not being detected at all :|

my first thought was that i out the cable in wrong but thats not possible as assus IDE cables go in only one way. the i thought of the jumpers but i hadnt touched them during the mobo change. but just to be safe i took the jumper off the CD-ROM. still no go! :|

I tried setting the secondary master in bios to auto (as CD-ROM is connected to the end of secondary IDE cable) NO GO! :|

i tried setting to CD-ROM. NO GO! :|:|

i cant install any thing with out the damn CD-ROM :(

HELP!!!

Akaz

PS. this is the only second time i am changing the mobo so may be i missed something obvious but i cant think of anything! last time i had no problems what so ever :(

I dont have a CUSL2 yet (one is on the way). I think you need to install Intel 815 drivers. Here is a good site that may help.

You might want to try updating the bios to 1003 final. I had a lot of missed detections of devices, and the secondary slave was skipped about 1 in 3 tries before I updated. It hasn't missed since.

some more information:

1."Onboard PCI IDE Enable" option is set to "both". (the second last option at the following Link)

2.the number 3 option here only gives me a choice between "None" and "Disable" (some choice :( ). there is no option to select my CD-ROM :(

thanx
for help

You need to install the 815e drivers so that the 2nd ide channel is enabled. Had this problem with a friends PC and ended up installing the CDROM as a slave on the primary IDE channel, install Windows then the 815e drivers off the cd that came with the motherboard. After that moved the cdrom back to the secondary ide channel.

could someone give me a refresher as to how to install the CD-ROM as a slave on primary IDE? is this the 'old' way where i would have to copy CD-ROM drivers on FDD? or would the Bios pick the slave on Auto? What about the jumper settings?? i dont think i have CD-ROM mannual :(

Atleast i have hope :)

thnx all

Set jumper to slave & plug drive into cable that goes to primary IDE controller.

well thanx to Slapstick and Radboy, i was able to get the CD-ROM running :)

BUT then i ran into another wall :| . ACPI bios wont install :( :|. none of my hardware including sound card, game ports and NIC etc would be detected. Voodoo worked but in standard VGA mode. the system wouldnt accept its drivers :(.

then i tried to flash the Bios. did so successfully. but on the restart the system wont start. everytime i would restart, i would get a blank screen (no bios no nothing) and after a lot HDD reading the system would give one beep and thats IT. :|

this happened before i flashed the bios as well (almost 3 outta 4 times). but after the flash it just wont go :|

Any ideas??

thanx

Thats a weird board you got there.. I just got my second cusl2 last night and it worked like a charm, even flash to 1003 final off cusl2.com. Using a 733EB and 550E... Russ just send me a pair of 850 today :)

hope i have better luck second time around. :) (damn the should be some thing for 'fingers crossed' just like we have :) for smiles)

pay a visit to www.CUSL2.com. Their message boards are very helpful. I run one of these puppies and it's great for overclocking. My problem arises when I attempt to mess with it. My SB Live supposedly gets loose from its PCI slot and then windows can't detect it. Other than that, this MB is a dog.
