Just wondering. I want to switch to ntfs. Used Drive Image to back it all up. ;-)

Yup, sames here. Though despite people saying NTFS is better, I just don't see the need to convert to NTFS unless there are NTFS specific features you need..

I've done it probably more than 300 times

I've maybe had 5 problem cases


1)Make Sure Your Disk Is Free of any errors
2)Make sure you dont have any paranoid cloning / imaging program in the startup

The main feature that everyone needs from NTFS that FAT doesn't have, is reliability. FAT is terrible and needs to die.

I think when you convert from FAT32 to NTFS the cluster size stays at something else. I do not remember exactly what it was but in that case I would reccomend reformatting in NTFS.

In Win2K and earlier it stays at 512b, at XP and above I believe it stays at whatever it would have been had you formatted, usually 4K

It's your data, but NTFS is much mroe resiliant to damage (system crash, power failure, etc)

Knowing nothing about convert, but does it keep the data? and have anybody tried it on an external firewire drive?
