i currently have 3 hard drives connected to a controller card, controller card has 2 IDE slots, IDE 1 and IDE 2.. my system boot up hard drive is set as primary on the jumpers and is connected to IDE 1, and on the same cable, its connected to a second hard drive which has jumper set at slave. then i have a 3rd hard drive which is connected to IDE 2, and the jumper on that is slave. i want to add a 4th hard drive thats connected on the same cable as hard drive 3 which connects to IDE 2. how should the jumpers on the 3rd and 4th hard drive go? should i set the 3rd hd as a master and then 4th as a slave? i didnt know and i had my 3rd hd as slave and also my 4th hd as slave and it only recognized the 4th hd and not the 3rd

thanks

Your 3rd drive should be jumpered as master and the 4th as slave.

Don't forget to partition and format the new drive else it might not be recognized in Windows.

IMO, the "Cable Select" setting was a marvelous invention.
