Posted this in OS but in case anyone more highly technical has a solution, that'd be great...

Windows XP home

I applied a patch to a program and when I rebooted I got the "Windows/System32/COnfig/System" is missing or corrupted. I can't get into Windows at all. I slaved the drive and viewed the registry and I have ControlSet001 and ControlSet002 but I don't have the CurrentControlSet.

I'm guessing this is part of the problem.

I know that Set1 and Set2 have the same keys but different values as CurrentControlSet is supposed to have. Would it work to copy 1 or 2 into Current? Or, anyone have any other ideas? I'm pretty much screwed at the moment.

There is also no backup in the windows/repair folder but I'm not sure where else there might be one if XP made a restore point thing any time in the past couple years.

Any ideas would be great before I reformat and start over...

Thanks.

Wrong forum.

I did post a response to your other thread in the OS forum though. Also do a search on this error. This exact problem has been addressed about 4 times in the last month.
