Current usage? Quick question

Howard

Say I have a power brick that supplies 2.4A at 5VDC from the wall outlet. Is it OK to use that to power something that requires 1A at 5VDC?

Basically, does it matter you use a power source rated higher in CURRENT than the device needs?

You're fine. You can use less... In fact, most power supplies can only provide around 50% of their rated current for any length of time anyway.

As long as the voltage is identical and the power brick's current rating is higher then you are good to go. Electronic device will only draw as much current as it needs. And the power brick will provide current anywhere up to its rating.
