Just curious as i've never really been into the unlocking side of things, just jailbreaking.

Going on a trip to Europe this summer where I would prefer to keep using my iPhone, just with a vodaphone/virginmobile/orange/etc pay as you go SIM to as it ends up significantly cheaper for calls, text, web. In the past i've just picked up a cheap pay as you go phone once i get over there, but would rather keep my iPhone in use if I can get it unlocked.

Anyone know what the current status is?

Software wise, nothing on the current basebands. There is a hardware unlocking solution. But not cheap for the device.

Depends on your baseband. If you've been updating with Apple's updates, then you won't be able to. If you've been doing pretty good with using TinyUmbrella to save your baseband, you may be able to depending on what baseband you are saved at.

cdma doesn't require a hack to move to metropcs or others. remember those phones are completely programmed using the touchpad. MVNO of verizon work pretty decent out of the box.

Considering most of the overseas carriers he mentioned (if not all) were GSM carriers, I'm assuming he has an AT&T iPhone. Also, the Verizon iPhone does need a hack to move to another carrier.

I've got a 4th gen iPod Touch and am loving it, but I never saw the advantage of jailbreaking it. Sure I could find "unauthorized" apps for it, but there are frequent sales on the App Store and a lot of the stuff I use is free anyways.

Has anyone here jailbroken their iPod Touch?
