I haven't really been keeping up to date on this. What are the best LCD screens out there for games right now? How do they compare to CRTs in image quality and 'streaking'?

I'm a CRT man. CRT's, especially the Trinitron CRT's, are better than any LCD for gaming and watching movies.

Yeah, it depends on your tolerance for blurring/tracers. I have no probs playing games on a 50ns LCD, but for some a 16ns LCD is too blurry when the action's heavy on the screen.

Go to a computer store and ask to play some games on the LCDs. The you'll get a feel for whether it will work for you or not.

I like my LCD. It gives sharp images, and you can game for hours on it without getting a headache. Ghosting is barely noticeable, and it kinda enhances the graphics IMHO. I have a 25ms samsung 171s running on a R9700 pro.

After hearing about how great the Dell 1800FP is for gaming, I got one. Comming from a nice 19" Sony Trinitron, I can say I made the right choice.

I notice hardly any ghosting, in games. I *looks* bigger (its actually .1 inch bigger) because I now have no huge frame, its almost all screen. Its cooler, and has a better display for me on my desktop and in movies. I have been won over by this monitor, and will likely get another for a dual setup.

Before I sold my CRT, I had them both setup, running dual to check the quality between the two. Its hard to explain, but the greenery (foliage, grass, trees etc.) in games looks much more real. Text looks sharper, and its easier on the eyes to me. A friend had the same feelings as I did, when he saw them compared side by side.

Another advantage is, obviously more desktop space again. No more dreaded "refresh problem" in some games. Like Halo, of BF 1942. It runs at 60hz, so the problem just isnt there. The monitor takes no "boot up" time. You turn it on, and in 2 seconds, its just on. My old CRT used to make a "bwaaaaang" sound when my PC came back from power saving mode when the monitor kicked back on, and took about 10 seconds to get a picture again. The LCD doesnt. Just a little thing, but it makes a difference to me.

Since they cost so much, what you can do it try to attend a lan. Watch people play on them, or even ask if you can to test it out. LCD's are not for everyone, but I enjoy mine much more so than a CRT. Keep in mine that cheap LCD's will likely leave you with a bad taste in your mouth though, try to use a good one.
