Ben Skywalker

No i haven't really had the time to download or have a look at 3dmark 2k1 yet, so it is kind of hypocritical for me going off on a tangent like this 🙂

You make very valid points about testing methodology here Ben 🙂 There really is no substitute for a thorough human analysis of a card, I guess I was just hoping for too much. Regarding the software renderer, I was thinking something along the lines of using either OpenGL or Direct3D and actually have the card not do the computations through MS' pipeline, but rather one created solely for the purpose of good quality by Mad Onion.

Yup, I have had a look at Giants, excellent game there 🙂 I will admit that it's graphics are superior to that of Q3, but to be perfectly honest, it seems to take a fairly long time to dethrone when compared to other engines. It's time, IMHO came and went a time ago. Why are people still clinging to a 1.5 year old game when trying to be indicative of a video card's performance? Sure, it scales nicely, but there isn't anything apart from FSAA now that will make the game choke. Even the fact that it's scalability is great, everything isn't run off the Q3 engine, and although Q3 may take use of extra FSB frequency, memory bandwidth or fillrate, others just might not. I call for more games, and more explainations of the benchmarks.

Viva Ben! 😀
