current Firefox version?

I am running Firefox 1.5.0.9 and when I click "check for updates" it says there are not any updates at this time. But when I go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ it says Firefox 2.0.0.1 is available for download.

Any idea why the discrepancy?

My first guess would be that you have to install the 2.x branch manually becaue it's such a large change.

1.x's autoupdate does not work with 2.x's autoupdate, it requires an uninstall / reinstall

I'm pretty sure 2.x and 1.5x can coexist, because I had both on my system for a little while until I found out and deleted 1.5. So if you're uneasy about switching to 2.x (which will be a fairly large jump; a bunch of my old extensions haven't been updated yet), you could keep 1.5 on your system if you feel like falling back to it.

When I updated to Firefox 2.0 it did not require me to uninstall the old version.
But what I did was download Firefox 2.0 in it's entirety then ran the installer.
It kept all my preferences and bookmarks ok .. some addons had to be updated
but that was about it.

Security fixes only... and possibly fixes for other bugs if they're very serious. No new features or stuff like that.
