current ATI vid drivers

My 6800gt died recently and so I need a new card and was wondering if the current ATI drivers are as good or better then NVIDIAs. Was thinking of getting a 4850 or 4870 or possibly an X2 of either. And is there any crossfire support in linux.

Have a look here they have many articles on the subject. Yes Crossfire is supported. ATIs Linux drivers have come a long way, very quickly.

there are problems with 4800 even with the new drivers. Main problem, is sleep doesnt work with compiz enabled. And videos have tearing, though not as bad as it was. But it still persists. Very annoying both of these issues...

Why crossfire in linux?

Why crossfire in linux?

I don't put my PC to sleep (that just sound wrong, it's not a sick pet :shocked🙂 so that's not an issue. I currently dual boot with windows 7 and opensuse 11 and was just curious if crossfire worked in linux.

Thx for the link Sylvanas.
