i was at the LA auto show, and well i noticed some car companies are just idiotic. i generally noticed this on toyotas, which i think in general have the worst cup holders of all cars, well in all their non trucks.

my moms rx300 has a cup holder like inside a center console thing, and well it doesnt grip the cup well. i know the 2003 corolla has like a slide out tray that well for one thing blocks the air conditioning, and also looks el cheapo to the max. my brother 96 camry the cup holder is in front of the shifter which is horrible (you cant reach the cup, not to mention you can knock it over if you are moving the shifter).

now the new (i might add uglier like crazy) scion xb and xa both have this problem, so does the is300, among many other toyotas.

anyways that was just my rant on cup holders. i drive a 2001 altima and well cup holder is in the perfect spot, behind the shifter, with multiple grooves to safely hold a 40ish oz drink. i noticed this same phenomenon in the infiniti g35 sedan , which i will buy someday..... (yes i am hoping big time) and well it has reaffirmed my love of that car (i sat in it for 10 minutes, while blasting the radio INSIDE the LA auto show, and then i hugged the car).

VW really screwed up the cupholders on the Jetta. It hangs your cup right over the center console. So it blocks your access to the radio controls, and if you spill it, it's going all over the radio/CCS.

The one in my Civic is a little bit inconvenient. I feel like the shifter makes it hard to reach, especially in an odd-numbered gear. But at least if it spills it will likely be confined to the floor.

The one I had in my Subaru Forester was a pain too.

It dropped down over the air vent, so if you had the A/C on, your coffee went cold in about 30 secs :frown:

I work for a company that makes cup holders for the cheaper cars from Honda and Toyota. If you knew how little money Honda/Toyota/ and Mitsubishi are willing to spend to put a cup holder in their cars, you'd know why the design is so bad.
