Need to put my computer into a certain size area and a cube is ideal but have some questions.

1. What to get and where to get it

2. System will be a Conroe setup (Asrock motherboard) with 2 HDDs (300gb SATA Maxtor and a 74gb WD Raptor), Radeon X1900XTX, DVDROM and DVDRW

My concerns are about keeping things nice and cool for everyday usage. I am not looking to monster o/c everything in the case and water cool etc. but I don't want to fry my components either so I think a minicube type case which there appear to be several of is probably not going to work.

The only other thing I can find is the Yeo Yang YY-0221 server cube. Its dimensions seem like they will work in my spot 17 inches deep 19 inches tall and 14 inches wide.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Too bad you weren't looking a few days ago. A guy sold his slightly modded YY Cube on Sat. for $110. shipped. The listing is still over in the ResellerRatings forums. It's a nice box and I know of no other cube cases like it. Of course VinDSL will shout about Mountain Mods UFO again, but too big and too expensive. It'll be pretty hard to find a YY Cube for less than $150. plus shipping now. Enjoy it.

Now if you have a phat wallet, you might want to check out the Thermaltake Mozart TX. There is a thread on it here and ZZF seems to be the first with stock. More of an elongated cube, but...

You may also want to look at the Chenbro server cases over on eWiz.com. They are low and deep for a tower. IDK if that shape would suit or not, but the price is great on a well-made box - under $80.

thanks.

I saw your post on it and figured it was too late so I didn't bother.

This idea just came up today as we rearranged the office at home and I have less space to work with so I need a case that will fit into the "cubby hole" in my desk. I am going to take the door off the "cubby hole" to provide better ventilation and some additional clearance in the depth dept for cables in back.

Hopefully this will work.

What are the measuremens of the cubby hole? Have you checked out the Chenbro? I checked it's measurements and they are 16.7Hx7.8Wx20.1"D so it should fit your cubby while leaving more room around it for cooling. Go to eWiz via Froogle for best price. It's a great entry-level server/workstation box. Word!

Either the Enhance 5140GH or 5150GH PSUs there would be a great companion. They are my default recommendations now for anything short of SLI or XFire setups.

You may have to go in via Froogle twice to get best price on both add one to the cart on each trip. Yeah, it's a PITA but you'll save $3. to 4. at the bottom line by doing it.

My only concern with that case is geting drives in it and not having it interfere with the X1900. Its a long card and is already a problem for me in my existing standard Midtower case - ie I cannot mount the drives in the cage because the x1900 runs into the back of the drives and the connectors will not fit.

cubby hole space is 17"D 19"H 14" so with that case there would be at least a 5" overhange assuming and inch or two needed in back for connections. 5" overhang would be a little too much.

Thanks

Open the back of the cubby and let the excess hang out the back. Better for cooling anyway. Here's the Chenbro page on it. How long is the card? 10" plus connector - well the mobo shown in the pic on the Chenbro site is at least 12" deep maybe more. So X1900 is no problemo. Better than paying twice as much for the YY-0221. Only 2.8" deeper than YY...

IAC, most normal tower cases are at least 18" deep. Good luck. Just as an aside, I like my Rosewill R5604 a lot. It's under 18" high by just about 20" deep. It has 11" of card room. For your space, the R5601 might be better - both are the same except for the front bezel. See my review here: http://www.techimo.com/reviews/ So I guess my work here is done.
