There isn't really any way to verify if they are fakes, either. Cohiba is probably the most well-known Cuban brand.

Sure there is. There was an article in Cigar Aficinado about 4 years ago that showed you what to look for on the bands. I have had to break the news to a few people that there so called cubans were indeed fakes.

This will weed out a small percentage of the fakes. The counterfiters have had a chance to look at the CA article already too.

I think you are giving counterfitters a lot of credit.

I also read that article a few years back. I don't think it's unreasonable to believe that the counterfeit cigars are harder to spot now.

Thats also assuming the cigar makers themselves dont take countermeasures on their bands.

Cuban Cigars are over-rated if you know what you like. However, my favorite cigar is the Montecristo #4 Cuban if that tells you anything.

oooooo so close to my favorite, the #2

Yes, as long as they haven't been exposed to extreme heat or cold and they are not dried out they are excellent. I had a Romeo y Juliet cuban a few months ago that my neighbor's wife brought back from Canada. It was very very good.

Nope, I hang out on a couple of cigar BBs. I'm only passing on what I've learned.

#2 and #4 are good, my favorite Cuban is the H. Upmann Sir Winston. My favorite non-Cubans would be Perdomo Reserve 'X', Sancho Panza Dulcinea, and Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Robusto.

Anyone know of any good cigar websites or E-tailers?

I can't recommend any Cuban sellers, 'cause I've never bought from them. Otherwise check out:
atlanticcigar.com

'Prreciate it 😎

If you've never tried a cigar before, a) you wont like it b) you wont be able to tell the difference. Even if you smoke cigarettes, smoking a cigar is much different. I would say take it and give it to someone who knows something about cigars and would appreciate it, or let the guy keep it. They are 100 a piece after all.

They are nothing close to $100 cigars though (and some do exist). There is a web retailer based in Spain that will guarantee shipment to the US. Their most expensive Cohiba (a Cohiba Ltd Ed 2001) goes for about $30, guaranteed shipment costs $13 if you are buying only one cigar.

So the most expensive single Cohiba cigar they sell is about $43 shipped to your door.

why are they so expensive? is it because they really do taste like a $100 cigar should, or becasue they are illegal in the US?

nope. simply because some twit is willing to pay that much for them...

Is that one of the links you gave me. Sorry, been busy with my website (And looking like a fvcktard!) and havent checked them yet 🙁

I smoked it... and amazingly, I started to spit after a couple puff just out of instinct. It is really, er "spicy", I guess that would be the good way to describe it.

People were looking at me funny, don't know if it's me smoking or spitting. 😕

$100! too much even for a cuban...which I love BTW...I still have a couple from a few years ago.

Last time I went to Cuba I bought a box of 25 Romeo Y Julieta Churchills and a 25 box of Cohiba Siglo V. They worked out to be around $11 Cdn ($8 US ) each. When I looked at the local shops they sold them for $40-60 Cdn ($29-44 US). I got my buddy who works in Seattle to sell them down there and got $80 US ($110 Cdn) each 😀 Needless to say ........... I paid for my Cuba vacation 😀

Cheers,
Aquaman

ya i know a guy who yearly takes his ENTIRE FAMILY, about 28 of them altogether go, and he makes each hold at least 7 cigar boxes in their suitcases on their flight home, and generally he makes money on the trips to CUBA lol
