Okay....
I've heard stories of bad service from mitsu and sony. Use simple logic. Sony cant test their tubes without time consuming and expensive labor. Sony's products are not any more high quality than anyone else's. Talk to lore about sony and mitsu's quality.
I don't really like Mitsu all that much, but they are pretty good monitors. Sony, however I do like. You say Sony products aren't any more higher quality? That is pure BS. Why? For one, Sony monitors reproduce the clearest color I have ever seen, and their blacks are the darkest of any monitor I've seen also. The Sony name is pretty much synonomous with high quality, and about the bad service? I dunno, but I've had excellent service from Sony for some of my customers that come to the store where I work.
Samsung monitors are on the same level as ctx and kds pretty much. The kds trinitron and ctx trinitron beat the 900nf. In lower end models the samsung is better but more expensive. According to a guy that works at kds canada(he told me what monitor suck and which are good) said the vs-195e is very good for a non trinitron monitor. The quality and picture is good
Samsung the same level as CTX? Oh you've GOT to be kidding me. We have CTX monitors in our tech area at work...why? Because they are cheap as hell....and there, picture quality doesn't matter. I did make sure that my tech machine has an viewsonic though. CTX makes junk. Same with stuff like Impression and Pixie monitors. (Pixie monitors come with those oh so wonderful E-Machines) Samsung's are much better than the CTX. The KDS monitors are pretty good really, their models with the sony tubes are good if you need a budget trinitron tube, and even their VS line with shadow mask isn't that bad if you pick the right models...but they are nowhere near the quality of other monitors.
For the be all end all king of monitors....buy a Sony. I know they are more expensive...but why? Because they are simply the best, and when something is the best, it gives a company a right to charge a premium price. CTX I don't like. Never have. Never will. Anyway so you understand what sort of experience I have...I'm a technician at a local computer store and I also work in the IS department of a large local (state) hospital. If we got monitors in at the hospital...we'd use something like the KDS VS's. They are decently priced and offer decent quality. Just fine for the typical day to day tasks. For people who spend all day on their computer we usually get them a Sony if they are important enough hehe, or at least something with a sony tube. Gee...just what I wanted to do...get in another argument....SEE? I PREDICTED IT!
