There you go again imposing a quantitative aspect to my first argument that I did not make.

Man you are autistic, with your hyper-literalism.

Here's an analogy.

Thread is about the massive national deficit.

Person A pops in, complains that it's and outrage that we waste money on a worthless agency like the CDC. Doesn't mention how much money it actually is. Mentions nothing else.

Person B pops in, and says, just so that people know, the thing's he's complaining about is .001 percent of the budget (links data), that massive thing brought up by the OP.

Person A: I never quantified it. I never said it was more than that.

Doesn't matter. Person B's facts provided perspective to frame the issue. If person A wants to make the CDC an issue, people should probably know the magnitude of the issue in fiscal terms, especially because person A made no attempt to provide such information. It would be different if the topic of thread was the usefulness of the CDC, but it's a budgetary thread, and hence, the dollars and cents always matter. Person B may not have literally refuted person A, but did provide information to put person A's remarks into context.

If you don't understand it from there, I don't know what to say.

I see your at the point where you need to make insults. You can say I was being off-topic, but if you look at what other people posted, the discussion isn't quite as narrow as you'd like it to be. Of course, out of all the posts including ones complaining that people are buying macbook pro's (also a very small part of the total expenditures if we looked at it but besides the point) you choose to respond to mine.

In the spectrum of insults that fly on this board on a daily basis, saying that you're "autistic with your hyper-literalism" is pretty mild. And it came after you said I had a knack for bringing up minor and irrelevant points.

The irony is that I actually think you're one of the better posters on the board, but you sometimes get really snarly when I disagree with you. Why, I have no idea.

Because all to often it's a point that's not something useful to me. You quoting my post mainly means that I'm going to read it as opposed to the general readership. Here, I didn't post anything that suggested I needed to be lectured by you about how big of a percentage of the higher education budget is taken up by illegals. I'd rather hear from someone who disagrees with me on principle that illegals shouldn't be getting grants. I might change mind mind about something if they have good arguments. But you're addressing something that I didn't really raise. This site isn't a texbook that some kid is going to read and need to get the larger picture on. It's mainly a back in forth between a few posters on (often random) specific subjects.

The fee increases don't bother me nearly as much as the salaries they're paying the presidents of the Cal State and UC systems.

http://www.kcra.com/news/28523045/detail.html

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Gov. Jerry Brown sent a letter Tuesday severely criticizing a plan to increase the pay of the new president of San Diego State University by more than $100,000.

The letter was addressed to the chairman of the CSU Board of Trustees, as the board holds its monthly meeting in Long Beach and is scheduled to consider an additional 12 percent tuition increase.

San Diego State President Elliot Hirshman began work on July 1. Hirshman's compensation package calls for him to be paid $400,000 -- or about $100,000 more than his predecessor.

"The assumption is that you cannot find a qualified man or woman to lead the university unless paid twice that of the Chief Justice of the United States. I reject this notion," wrote Brown, who did not refer to Hirshman by name.

The trustees' meeting is the first since the state Legislature approved a budget that cuts state funding for the CSU system by $650 million -- about a quarter of the state's support.

A finance committee unanimously approved Hirshman's compensation package Tuesday morning. The full board was scheduled to take up the issue later in the day.

There is no fucking reason the president of a state college/university should be paid more than the governor of the state...or more than the justices of the US Supreme Court...NONE.
