Every week or so, CS source does updates when you try and run the game. They take anywhere from 5-12 minutes and since the game takes long enough to load already, it's a giant pain in the ass.

Why the hell do they need to update every week. It's f-ing annoying.
I just want to play the game not wait forever.

it's terrible when a company strives to give you the best gaming experience possible isn't it?

+1. It's preposterous. They should obviously not update their products at all. 12 friggin minutes!? I mean, my scheduled is swamped between fervent rounds of CS playing and gorging myself in front of the television. I can't spare that much time!!

CSS = CASCADING STYLE SHEETS

If you must abbreviate "CounterStrike: Source" do it like this: "CS: S" so that we know what you're talking about.

You're complaining about 12 minutes? When I updated my CS:S server, it took almost TWICE that long! I guarantee my server is on a better pipe than you too. OHMIGOD! It was so irritating! They didnt add a new map or anything, or even fix any bugs, they just made me wait 24 minutes! stupid Steam!

LOL! Wow, you guys are complaining about 5-12 wait times?

That's amazing.

They've not only come out w/new patches in their latest release, but they've given us a NEW CSS map! And still you compain?! Wow. Someone's a lil' ungrateful to a company that is working their ass off to ensure that a $39 game is the best it can possibly be AND they're releasing new content. World of Warcraft developers charge $50 for their game AND $15/month, yet you get the same level of service from Valve.

Give me a frickin' break ppl.

Try to keep in mind that the Steam system is still revolutionary, and due to its nature network traffic has to be carefully managed. Im not sure what their setup is capable of handling but I wouldn't be at all suprised that if they were to realese updates of a larger size with less frequency that it could overload the system. Spacing it out may be a solution to hundreds of thousands of people downloading at once.

Another thing, you guys are already complaing about having to wait 12 minutes for an update to complete; just imagine if the updates of december were released as one package. Best case scenerio puts you waiting at least an hour to finish loading, and thats likely during a moment when you weren't expecting an update to begin with and just wanted to get to fragging.

I assume you guys are talking about the latest steam update of 12/16/04.

Not sure what the problem was for you guys. Not only did this update fix many annoying bugs AND add a much needed new map to the rotation (Added map: de_prodigy) it only took about 30-60 seconds on each of my two CS Source clients.

Update didn't take too long on my system either. I suppose you deleted the new map because you didn't want any updates.

Updated my server from version 18 to 20. Yea, THAT took a while (more than 15 mins).
