EDITed: I have a problem. Whenever I start a CS:S Game with the -console extension, the load screen hangs at "Initializing Resources." The game starts fine if the console is disabled. What gives?

I'm trying to start a game with bots (I played a game with bots in China, and they were surprisingly good). I have a few questions:

- Are there bots in the game?
- I start a game, I attempt to press tilde in order to access the command prompt. It does not work. ??? Do i have to add "- console"?

ANd on an unrelated note:

Is there any way to change weapons models, as with CS (and still have it comply with Steam)? I realize the models in CS:S are much improved, but still inaccurate at best.

There's an option in the keyboard setup (under Advanced, I think) to enable the console. I've been searching for bots to use, but haven't been able to find any so far.

phonemonkey:

Well, there are CVAR commands for bot options. I just don't know if there are waypoints (.nav) for any of the maps (say, dust).

I'm actually running into another problem. I have entered the '-console' extension, but every time I attempt to host a game, it freezes at 'initializing resources.'

I might try setting the bots_quota with the console on, exiting, and then hosting a game with that minbots value w/o console extension.

There are commands in the console to add bots, but if you try to do so, you'll get an error (it's been a while since I last tried to add them).

Supposedly, there's a dll file out there that can enable it, but I haven't been able to figure out which one it is (or find it). I'm hoping that they do turn on bots soon, since I'm normally up for just kicking the crap out of bots when I get home from work.

TheVrolok:

Yes. My problem is that the game freezes whenever I launch a server with the -console extension.

phonemonkey:

Is that so? Interesting. I played my cousins 'copy' of CS:Source (he lives in China, so he uses an illegal non-Steam version, but then again, 90% of the stuff used in China is illegal) and it had a very well programmed AI bot. Headshots about 90% of the time and unstoppable with an AW/M. Of course, you're supposed to play them like you play human opponents, and if you camp against them 1.) they don't bitch about it and 2.) they die easily. But it's very good if you want to practice reflexive stuff, since these computers practically see you through walls. And, yes, they used nades, communicated extensively via radio and listens to your orders (and at times decides not to listen).

I was so happy to find this out that I simply assumed it was an activated feature on Steam CS:Source as well. Too bad it isn't.

For what do you need the -console argument?

For starting the game with the console enabled? That was what phonemonkey was speaking of when he was talking about the "Advanced" stuff.

There's no console arguement, you enable it inside the game in the keyboard config. You do not add the extension.

And the bots are only in the illegal version, don't ask me why. Using them would technically be illegal I guess.
