Running the video stress test I'd get about 85fps using 1280x960 and 70fps at 1280x1024. Why is there such a big difference for a small change in resolution?

I'm running on a Barton @ 2.4GHz, Radeon 9800Pro @ XT, 1GB RAM, latest ATI drivers and Windows XP SP2

I didn't expect such a significant drop. It's an 7% difference in pixels, 20% drop in performance. I know it's not supposed to be linear, but I just didn't expect such a big drop.

As for the LCD after the 1280x1024, I don't think there's any differences asides from telling your average person that's what you should use if you're using a LCD. It won't let you choose it if your monitor doesn't support that high of a resolution right??

Does it mean anything?

Because typically 1280x1024 is a resolution for LCD's. Though many people with CRT's run it because they don't know anybetter and it will my people with CRT's have somewhat of a squashed image.
