CS:S reccomended settings got lowered...?

Today I started CS:S and looked at my video settings to muck around with some stuff. I noticed something odd. My reccomended detail settings (the asterisk'ed * ones) were now lowered to, well, lower settings.

CS:S used to reccomend 4x Antialiasing, 8x Anisotropic. It's now 2x Antialiasing, and 4x Anisotropic. I haven't changed anything about my hardware or drivers. Steam did run a small update.

Furthermore, I score lower on the FPS stress test than I used to. I used to get 143-153 FPS, now I get 130-136.

I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else. Also, what would explain this event?

Edit: Wow, looks like things are even stupider than I thought. When I try to put my settings back to what it used to reccomend, it looks like this:

Here's what it looked like yesterday on the exact same detail settings, but without the "Magic" that occurred.

Exact. Same. Settings. Just now, I'm literally not allowed to do them unless I want super PURPLESQUARES vision.

Off. Also, still doesn't explain why my reccomended settings got lowered. Would possibly explain FPS loss, if it had been on, which it wasn't.

This is a relative FPS problem. Unless you know of a specific chipset that got screwed in a recent update (and if you do, you should have posted it already) I don't see how that question is relevant.

attitude much?

Yeah, CS:S runs a lot worse since the last update. The stress test still seems good for me, but in game it runs rough sometimes...its more like the lag is a lot worse for me.

Looks like you're missing the new reflection textures. Try it w/ HDR on/off and see if it makes a diff. If not, you might be looking at a reinstall. I had this happen before the patch and I eventually ran into a server that downloaded what I was missing, and everything was gravy.

Yeah the game does seem to run worse. I got the purple windows fixed just by starting the game up again, but still no dice on the FPS test or the reccomended settings thing. Could it possibly be my AGP apeture size? I have it set to 128 right now on a 256 mb card, does that sound right?
