CS:S Do people really still play this?

I played both, i played the old one for a long time. I liked the new one as well but i played it alot less, probably because it was getting old.

I remember watching a buddy play the orignal CounterStrike back in like 2004. It was horrible...and everyone just loaded up with a Desert Eagle or an AWP (the Noob Cannon) and...ugh...the game was just terrible.

Some people just can't cut it in a hardcore FPS so they say the game is shitty or cry hacker all the time. Stick to Hello Kitty Island Adventure and STFU!

in my prime i played cal-z (z3r0 to y00 n3wbz).

i often play 1.6. cs:s just doesn't do it for me. i tried it. just didn't like the feel of it. i still remember when i was a noob. the game is still just as fun now as it was back then.

never really understood why people played the first CS because it sucked compared to every other FPS out at the same time and thereafter

CS was a revolutionary game for its time. It was i believe the first successful if not the first modern warfare sim. Before CS most FPS were about blasting rocket launchers and rail guns in deathmatch cap the flag type games.

And now almost all new FPS are modern warfare sims. Call it the granddaddy if you will.

Like what? The only games I'd consider would be Quake/Rocket Arena and the various Quake 3 1on1/TDM variants and those are different (Quake = DM, CS = tactical). If you've ever watched a competitive CS match you'd understand.

Pretty much. Other games have done Realism better, but CS was the first. It also is fairly straight forward and not too complicated, so it's easy to get started and right into it. That's not to say that anyone can be awesome at it, but anyone can certainly play it without much preparation.

Use to play over the network in the dorms in college from time to time. That was a lot of fun because everyone knew each other. I was and always have been a Quake fan though, and still play Q3 every once in awhile.

More people are currently playing counter strike 1.6 than halo 3, odst, and halo 2 combined. How many more? Try in the realm of 10,000 more. Modern Warfare 2 is the new king, but not by that much. be interesting to see if it remains popular for as long as the counter strike series. So yes, people really do still play this.

If you Add CS:S and just CS together, they still dwarf All Else.

And considering how old the two games are (CS was released retail 2000, CS:S 2004), it's incredible how many people still play the game. In one year I doubt MW2 will have even half as many players.

i used to play competitive cs and dod (non source) back in the day.
cal, sta, ogl, and nothing has come close to that feeling still.
there's more advanced games now (graphically) but cs is still
the game pulling in $ every year at tournaments.

it's still huge even now

Yea seriously once the new Battlefield game comes out or the new Medal of Honor, it'll lose a lot of it's player base.

To the OP/Anubis:

its understandable to get upset and smash your mouse when you get your ass beat on a game thats 20 years old after spending thousands of dollars on a new computer.

CS is the game in which all fps' are judged, get the fuck over it.

Oh, I've played it. It's funny to me that I can log into pretty much any other FPS and have a blast/do well, but CS:S is a disaster. No matter what server you go into, someone is 49-2. Sure, they just pre-fire wherever they go right?

Laughable. The reality is that Valve needs to do a complete overhaul of the system/reg/hacking deterrents to make this game legit again. Look on youtube for script hacks...it's hilarious how many are out there for auto-firing/pre-firing...and they can't be detected by VAC. I stand behind calling it the worst game ever for sure.
lololollool mad cuz bad

There is no such thing as a script hack for CSS aside from a bhop "script", which is pointless as anyone who spends one second typing "bind mwheeldown +jump" into console is more versitile than that script.

The reality is that you are just bad, believe it or not some people play the game at more than 60hz, play in -dxlevel 81 for less textured smoke, and pay money to enter leagues to win money. Im not claiming to be the best CSS player, but I can tell the difference between cevo-p and wallhacks.
