When i'm playing cs:s my crosshair gets *lost* in bright areas or when i go from a dark area -> bright area in dust 2. how do i go about fixing this? does it have to do with the crosshair being translucent? how do i make it not?

Isn't there a setting in the options to change the color?

You haven't gone through the settings at all obviously.

back when i was a hardcore FPS player i used a laser pointer fixed on the center of the crosshairs on the screen. I fixed it over my shoulder on a shelf behind/above me. This also gave you a aim point for those weapons like sniper rifles and shotguns that dont give you a crosshair at all in some games unless you are zoomed in or using iron sites. It made a huge differnce being able to one shot people with a sniper rifle up close cause you were dead accurate even when not zoomed in on the scope. Im to old for that crap now though :)

lol Clear tape + Marker = better alternative. This was on my Glass Screen CRT though :D

You're all too hardcore for me. I've heard that people do this but...people ACTUALLY do this?!

lol

Back on topic: dust 2 is an HDR map. Try turning that off first.

I haven't played CS:S since they did the crappy engine conversion but the commands used to be something along the lines of:

cl_crosshairusealpha 1
cl_crosshairalpha 255

Code:
alias tg_clr "incrementvar cl_crosshaircolor 0 4 1"
bind "l" "tg_clr"

Back when I was a hardcore gamer I drilled a small hole on the middle of the screen, that did it.

In college, I used a fine point sharpie to mark the crosshairs on my CRT for no-scoping people in CS

I wore glasses with dots on both lenses so that when my eyes aligned them, they would form a single dot in the center of the screen. of course I had to stay perfectly still

The felt-pen/pencil dot on a piece of Scotch tape still works, you just have to be careful with LCDs. Also, to deal with dust2 I always turned down the gamma to where I could still see in the tunnels but wasn't blinded by the bright areas. I hate D2 though, probably my worst map - which is bad, because it's a lot of other people's best map.

It's easier with contacts. That + meth + Ritalin is still the secret to being an ultimate pro gamer.

Anyone figured out a good way to put a crosshair on your screen for LCD screens? I've tried scotch tape + marker, but never works well, always cloudy and throws my vision off.

Doesn't bother me. I just use a piece that's about the same size as the crosshair, so you don't really notice it when you're playing. It's kind of in the way when web browsing, but nothing terrible.
