CS started to suck when the public got wind of it, which was when it went retail at 1.0. Within a month of 1.0 it was inundated my immature lamers (moreso than before) and I was gone withing 2 months of that.

it's really funny. i have another friend, actually more of an aquaintence who plays that game hardcore. he goes to all them tournaments and what not and wins first for like 10,000. split between him and his teamates of course. his nick or handle or whatever you call it on there is ksharp. for him, CS pays the bills. that punk bought an M3 from CS money.

I think verbal = words, so typing counts.

Oral = spoken from the mouth words, so you'd need a mic.

But yeah, there are a lot of whiny/bitch cs players. I still play all the time and am really looking forward to CS:Source.

CS Players are annoying
They're 12, what do you expect? The only 12 year old that isn't annoying is a dead one. Unfortunately making that happen is illegal :|

wow, you guys play in the wrong servers then, most ppl I play CS with are no younger than 25. All mature, and a lot of them are old enough to have kids that play as well.

wow, i didn't think they gave THAT much money away at tournaments. If you can profit from it, then it's worth looking into I guess. You could be a career Geek CS player :D

yeah, i dont play CS but with the games i do play i tend to stick with servers i recognize and its generally a pretty good game.
sometimes people are way above me but for the most part they tend to treat those with less skill very respectfully.
every so often some dude comes in looking to join clans, asking every 3 seconds and screaming crazy racial slurs that make no sense but that player doesnt usually last long.

Well... I don't lose constantly like your friend. But when I am outskilled, I just admit it.

I havn't played CS in a long time, but I liked playing it back in beta. CS taught me a lot of things about online gaming that I didn't learn from Quake. Controlled bursts, to stay behind objects at all time, to keep moving, when to use grenades effectively, how to operate as a team, etc. It was really fun seeing a clan come together in CS because of the huge ammount of cooperation the game required.

great quote from bash. which is what made me remember this moment in my life about the annoying CS'ness.

<Dedge> When you kill 6 people in Unreal Tournament it's "Monster Kill", In Quake3 it's "Excellent", in Counter-Strike it's "Kicked by console"

And no matter who wins, they're still retarded.

lets stop talking about CS players..... lets talk about Jonathan Wendel the god of competitive gaming. I've seen demos of him playing CS and UT2K4.... he has faster reflexes than OGC!

He said he was lagged cause he was ONLY getting 100fps. So he closed the game and reopened and started playing again, but luckily he was at 125fps now. Which is great since he's like a cat or something. He was still getting rocked, but this time blamed it on the lag he had. He had a whopping 21ms ping. Needless to say, I turned his monitor off and gave him a real reason to lose.

Anybody else know anybody like that? It's the most annoying thing. Saying he can see a difference between 18ms and 21ms and between 100fps and 120fps. I just don't see how it has that great of an affect on that game. I've played it once and was unimpressed. When I played it, it was on a slow comp that was getting like a 40ms ping and probably 70fps. I'm just guessing, but it seemed just fine to me.

1.) The HL engine is capped at 99fps.
2.) The entire cs community IS annoying, check steampowered's forums for a multitude of proof.
3.) The ping DOES make a difference, 18 and 21ms ping does not matter, but if there was choke on the server (netgraph will show you) even 30ms can feel like 100. And although you can play fine at 100ms, it's very hard to snipe compared with a low ping/no loss connection to the server :).
4.) Some people can see the difference between 60fps and 80fps, even 100fps.. there has never (to my knowledge) been any conclusive evidence as to what the limit is. 100fps feels a lot faster to me than 72fps does, but some poeple will not notice this. Then again some are fine with 60hz refresh on their crts which makes my eyes hurt :p

I play with a 60hz refresh rate at 60fps and I play CAL :p

diff strokes for diff folks I guess, however I've never used a better comp than mine so I don't really have anything to compare it to I guess...

HL can go past 99 with steam. you hve to turn on developer tools and it'll let your fps rise past 99.

thats why you play real online games like IL-2. That way, when you never get rocked, you get shot down once, then you usually have a grace period to take off and get some distance between you and the ground. And its usually pretty obvious who is good and who isn't, and the people who aren't good can laugh about it and take advice from those that are. I won't play an online game that is as mindless as counterstrike, the only online FPS I'll play is america's army, which I haven't touched in about 9 months. IL-2 > all.
