CS (orginal not CS:Source) Problems

I'm having trouble with CS. I havn't played it in a while since I formatted my harddrive. So I loaded up Steam and got CS installed. When I go into a sever, it will stay for a couple of seconds, and then will kick me out. Is this normal? Getting kicked out before I even played? I don't know whats going on. Don't really know if my ping is the problem, I've looked at it in CS (for the brief time i can) and it was <100ms. It's almost always <100ms, unless the sever has a bad connection. I've never heard of anyone booting someone because of a sub 100ms ping before.

Am I doing someting wrong here? Havn't played CS (the original, not source) in a LONG time, and I'm now want to start getting back into it.

Any suggestions?

Try putting your port to :27015

Or is this only with servers?

So, how do I change my port, I can't seem to find the setting.

Thanks for help though. I'll try forwarding the port on my router.

I'm still having trouble, anyone? I can host a dedicated sever, I know that much but that really doesn't help me in joining a game.

Is it just me? or are other people having this problem.

Any suggestions?

it's not giving you any kind of error at all? just kicking you from the server? have you opened up your console directly after getting kicked? that should give you some insight into your problem.

It could be that you're joining a server with a reserved player slot. You'll join and see the welcome screen for maybe a second before it kicks you. Try entering a server with more than two slots open.

Yeah, reserved server slots are lame 🙂

I have joined severs with 19/20 and I have joined severs with 0/20 people in it, yeids same result.

Finally got into and stayed into a game.

Got some errors though, heres what consol said:

Netchan_CheckForCompletion: Lost/dropped fragment would cause stall, retrying connection

Host_Error: UserMsg: Not Present on Client 23

They are two different errors that happened at two different times. One when I was downloading files from the sever, and the other when I was connenting I think...

Played at least ONE game though. Getting pretty good again.

There seems to be an issue with version 1.45.11 of the Linksys firmware for BEFSR41 v2. Update it to the latest version and you should be good to go. 🙂

Firmware downloads can be found here: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellit...name=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper

I guess there are different versions of that router, so you might want to make sure which one you have.

So, how can I tell what version of the Router I have? Like v1, v2, v3, v4???

I'll give the update a shot though.

Another error:

I didn't copy it but it was something like "Host Error, illegal action" or something like that.

Any ideas? I have the lastest firware on my router.

It will tell you this info on the router itself. You should see the model number with a version right on the router.

I justed looked at the router, it says I have v2.0 but their is no v2.0 BEFSR41 on the linksys site. I have always used 1.0 firware because the firmware is the same. 3.0 uses a different firmware but 1.0 and 2.0 share the same firmware.

So it's at the latest firmware (1.46.2, Aug 30, 2004) so now what do I do?

Try plugging directly into the internet and see if it works. If it does, then we know for sure it's a router issue. (it'd help if you had your software firewall on 😉)

It seems 2.44.2 is considered the most stable firmware release. I guess you could try that one.
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41/befsr-fw-1442z.zip">ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41/befsr-fw-1442z.zip</a>

You mean 1.44.2, not 2.44.2 since they don't make a 2.44.2, plus the link is for 1.44.2. (just letting you know).

I just flashed the router with that firmware, so I guess it's on to trying now.

I think downgrading to 1.44.2(z) did the trick. I can now play without any problems.

Will it be a problem using a 3 year old firmware?

No, I purposefully put "2.44.2" as that is the designation for v2 firmware. (the "2" being for version 2 and "1" being for version 1) However, since version 1 and 2 use the same firmware, they just used the same file.

I'm glad to see it resolved issues. And no, it shouldn't be a problem using that firmware. Some people use routers without ever updating it. Besides, you're using the old firmware because the new firmware is the one with the problem.

Now that thats solved, I have another question.

How come when I put on AA the text gets all messed up in the game?
