CS is losing it :(

With games like Dungeon Siege, JK II, Wolf, MOHAA, and soon to be out warcraft 3... I'm afraid CS is finally losing it. I for one stay clean off CS for the last 2 to 3 weeks 😀 w00T!!!

I always find time to play CS 😉 .

Dungeon siege looks good but it`s too much like Diablo2 for me and I got bored with the simple click and attack of the gameplay, now lets talk real RPGs like Morrowind 😀 which is what I`m waiting for, playing Might & Magic 9 at the moment which`s ok but nothing special which has dated graphics & horrible 800x600 max res 🙁 also I feel they rushed the game out but could of made it better in many ways.

Anyway I`m going back in CS tonight, I do like cheating death program that my UKWar CS server uses it does help stop those cheaters.

🙂

Dungeon Siege looks nice, but the Multiplayer turns me off of it... Wolf kinda sucks, never played JK2, and WC3 is a completely different genre...

BTW, It seems that SCSI drives are losing it...

Ive been playing CS since beta 6, I still play everyother day. Even when I get a new game I still go play some CS. Although the length of my sitting have shortened alot. I use to play for hours on end....now I play for about 1 map and thats it for awhile.

Yes i have noticed SCSI drives are dropping in Value and in development as well, but I still find hopes in SCSI drives. IDE could never catch up to the performance of 15,000RPM SCSI drives. 🙂

i personally don't think cs will die out that quickly, even with all those new games coming out. The reason is that Cs has a huge established community and there are people who are just starting to get addicted to the game. And then there are us veterans who enjoy killing those n00bs. 😀 Also, CS is probably the best online-FPS multiplayer out as of this moment IMO, just because there r not a whole lot of people who can handle wolfenstein and machines that can handle MOHAA. (i mean the average person's machine, not us who keep on tweaking ours)
Seriously, if you're going to play a online FPS, what would you go for? 🙂 Other games are fine, but i think its safe to say CS will be around for a long itme. I play other games too, but i play CS at least once every 2 days...

CS isn't dying, just look at the stats: http://www.gamespy.com/stats/

CS is nearly ~57k people playing versus ~6k for the next closest game (at the time of me posting this). Clearly, you may have been gone, but not a lot of other people.

But if you also look at the list, look at how many games ID powers! Out of the 10 listed, Id powers 6 of those games and Quake2 code still powers 2 of the 6 id games. Its amazing to think that technology deemed "old" by many standards still show how well coded and adaptable it is today.

BTW - I've been playing GlobalOps for the last few days (in between CS 1.3 and CS 1.4). So far, very unimpressed. I have too many gripes with it and feel I should return it. I'll give it a few more days before my final answer on it.

i dont think its the new games that will kill cs, rather what its creators or doing will most likely do the job...

i went from a complete 5+hours a day addict to a weekend LAN player... internet is so crappy here that its just not worth it anymore. this is besides the point though...

cs 1.3 as it is, is *PERFECT*

1.4 shoud remove bugs and NOT try to thwart bunnyhopping etc cuz thats NOT A DAMN BUG.

what ticks me off about the 1.4 changes is that theyre destroying the game. everysingle thing that involves skill; bunnyhopping, straffing, jumping whilst shooting, etc are being removed in favour of ppl who crouch or just stand still when they see an enemy. if i wanted that kinda dumb extreme realism id buy operation flashpoint goddarnit! :| :| 1.4 is gonna be dominated by newbies that crouch when they see a target, no matter how close it is, its gonna be absolutely pitiful and ridiculous. i wish i could program well so i could hack 1.3 and make a "1.3 forever mod" or something
rolleye.gif
argh 🙁 when 1.4 is out i stop playing cs.

Wait, can you explain exactly what they are going to change in CS 1.4? Do you mean that while running you basically won't be able to hit anything (because of bad aim)? Do you have a good link about the impending changes? Thanks --

ya just caught me on my way to dinner... yes i have a link.... ill post as soon as i get back! 🙂

Here are things I noticed with 1.4:
1. Bodies stick around when they die.
2. Bunny hopping removed (don't continue to be jumping and expect it to work).
3. Updated maps.
4. Added maps.
5. Much better spectator setup, while dead (way too many improvements to list).
6. Auto-balance moves the last person that joined the team with more players to the team that doesn't have as many. This is contrary to moving the person with the better score.
7. Better accuracy with some guns (namely, para).
8. Dynamic crosshair (can be turned on or off)
9. Rename some of the gui menu configuration options, so if you have binds for some items, they may need to be changed.
10. Better display of bomb information (will show in radar, will highlight persons name with bomb in scoreboard, etc)
11. Hostages no longer need to be "used". When CTs come close, hostages follow
12. Terrorists no longer can "use" hostages, so they cannot move them.
13. Much better hostage navigation.

This is a quick list and its not complete. If you go to csnation, do a search for 1.4 and you'll see all sorts of changes.

ha! beat me to it! 😉

this sucks...

and in order to remove bunyhopping theyve totally fudged jumping... you loose speed exponentially when jumping, along with accuracy. accuracy also goes to hell when straffing, for instance. argh. makes me sick really 🙁 :|

Hopefully the majority will migrate over to Condition Zero when that comes out. CS is due to be kicked up a few graphical notches.

the main reason CS might be losing it is because of cheating. i don't even find it fun to play until i can find a room where cheaters are not that obvious. i heard day of defeat blows CS out of the water, but I have yet to play it...anyone have any reviews on this game?

DOD v2.0 rocks! I usually play every night that I can.. The graphics are good, the gameplay is 10x better than CS -- you actually have to work as a team to succeed.. bunnyjumping is not a problem due to stamina..

All in all.. anyone that plays any Half-life mod should give DoD a try..

DoD home..

cheers,

1. Ah, who cares, although it might slow framerates if there's a lot of bodies in one place.
2. As long as everyone can bunny hop, not a problem - not one to be "solved" with a patch.
3. Oh yay.
4. Cool.
5. Veddy good; existing spectator thing is just dumb.
6. Guess that makes sense.
7. Ok; might be nice.
8. Should have been there in the first place.
9. Interface improvements are nice - as long as they really are improvements😉
10. Should have been there in the first place.
11. Stupid idea; not realistic at all.
12. Stupid idea; not realistic at all.
13. ABOUT TIME!!! In 1.3 main problems: hostages have trouble navigating rooms, and they pop all over the place when they're moving.

Be nice if they could just make the game work better instead of screwing it up.🙁

CS reached it's pinnacle at beta 5.2 for me.

After that it went steadially downhill, and the 1.x versions have sucked.
And of course cheating didn't exactly help out.

Cheating, in CS, isn't as rampant as it was a few months ago. Look for a server with CSGuard 7.42/7.44 and you won't be finding many cheaters on it. If you want a good server, I know of one on the west coast with no cheaters (csguard catches them quite often).

Yeah, I think that's the peak of when I was addicted to CS. I started playing in the Fall of 99 (I don't remember what beta, just that I was a freshman in college). I stopped playing when it went mainstream (just after the retail release). Maybe I'll get back into it with Condition Zero.

i think 1.3 is just fine as it is and agree with whoever said they should move all the changes to condition 0 and just improve cs as it is and not screw it up :|

I've enjoyed singleplayer MOHAA, JKII and RTCW, but their multiplayer still doesn't hold a candle to the feel of CS.
I run a nightly server and play it every day, this since beta 5.1 which , heh, I still have the manual for.

I'm one of those noobs and here's my take.

All this bunny hopping BS is a little unrealistic. You can jump like a freak, maintain your accuracy, and expect minimal damage? How unreal is that? Play unreal tournament 2003 if thats what you like (as the name implies). The element of CS that makes it such a great game is that it is very real. It is modeled as closely as possible after real life combat.

Maybe some of you vets are too set in your ways to accept change. Just a warning guys, keep up that attitude and you're going to turn into your father!

what the! thats what your farther said about basketball and slam dunking !! 😉

and cs isnt that real.. still just a game, proabably rainbow 6 is more real.
but we whine everytime they update anyways.. hopefully the change wont be too dramatic.. when is it due?

Yes, I found Ghost Recon feeling very real, boringly hike accross a field for a while, then BAM, you're sniped to death, or wounded so you can hardly move.

As far as game-play, CS has a very good "feel" to it. Quick weapon shift, fun grenades, and you can almost feel it when you're getting hit.
