CS has really high ping but my connection is >2mb/sec

Does a fast connection (around 2.5-3mbps) not necessarily imply a generally low ping? Because I normally ping around 60-something in CS but today every server on the net was pinging at 150-200. Even google pinged above 150. I always thought ping would be good if throughput was good. I guess not?

Any ideas?

Not always. Go out to download.com and get Ping Plotter (shareware version). It'll tell you where your latency is coming from. If it's your local network, you have some work to do. Otherwise, you can call up your ISP and complain.

The problem seemed to have fixed itself, but pingplotter still gives very strange results. The image shows what pingplotter is reporting. Is it just me or am i NOT supposed to have that much packet loss? I can still surf the web fine and CS is back to pinging ~60ms so that's ok. Could it just me that those hosts are just set to not respond to ping? Because it seems like if i really did get that much packet loss i wouldnt even be able to post this message...

Your MTU might be too high. By default it's 1500, but if you're on DSL you need to use 1492. Your router might have an MTU option that can fix that without having to tweak the registry in every computer on the network.
This page from the DSLReports FAQ tells more about MTU and RWIN settings.
Better yet, look at this link for a better explanation and more information about routers that support MTU settings. Be sure to check out the "MTU Dos Ping Test" link on that page for an easy and reliable way to find your optimal MTU.
