I seem to be the only person on the planet who doesn't like these two games. I used to own Half-Life before my friens "loaned" it out to someone, and I downloaded CS when I had it. I dunno why, but I just didn't like it. I think its just the way the engine feels... Movements arent as precise or as natural as they are in games like Quake3. Even after mucking around with the mouse sensitivity and controls, I still just couldn't past the "shaky" feel of the game. Also, the gameplay just didn't seem fun at all to me. Too easy to kill and/or die. You get hit once or twice and you're dead. I prefer having lasting fights, exchanging rounds, that traverse a large portion of the level, before someone gets fragged. In CS, there are no fights. You shoot at someone, and either they die immediately or you miss and die yourself. Not fun.
So lately Return to Castle Wolfenstein is all the rage. My friends tell me how incredibly awesome it is, so I download the multiplayer demo. I set the controls, jump in a game, and I'm like "Oh man, this sucks!" Once again, controls feel all weird, and this is an engine I know and love. Also, the weapons suck. Maybe I just don't like realistic weapons or something. Also, the overall gameplay just sucked IMO. I dont know; I must be weird. I'll take a good game of Descent3 over any FPS any day.
