Crystal Orb's "Easy" Push-Pins Not So!!

Okay, I had to resort to using Artic Silver Adhesive to adhere a Crystal Orb to my GF3 card. I tried using the "easy-push pins," without success. With a tremendous amount of force, I was able to get one pin through a hole (the whole time wondering if PCB was about to crack), and the other pin collapsed before it would go through.

I think was using sound installation procedures, and have installed a couple blue orbs in the past. Any thoughts/ideas/comments on installation using push pins???

You sure you were using the right holes in the card? A friends had the same problem, but once I looked it he had destroyed the pins on his. Turns out he was trying to push them into the wrong set of holes. The holes he was using were too small for the pins.

I've installed a few Blue Orbs myself and have caught myself doing the same thing. Wonder why I can't get damned pins in the holes, then I look and I'm trying to use the wrong holes.

Yup, the problem is that the card you were trying to install the CORB on had holes that were too small. You didnt realize this while you were installing it? Common sense...

I guess thats what you gotta deal with when you're using Tt products. I prefer Alpha CPU and GPU HSFs ;)

And what do you know personally about my common sense? You have a lot of nerve to make that comment. Let me guess, because am a new member to this site, you assume common sense runs thin?

Tell what I do have, a 6'2" frame and a black belt. I'll fly you to Atlanta if you wanna discuss my common sense in person...

black belt or not, you still lack common sense. Lets see... push pin into hole, pin is hard to push in, pin must be too large for hole, must not let anyone know that I know this, must post stupid thread about pins no being easy to push in because no one must know that I know that the pins are too big... is that what you were thinking when you created this thread? Thank god they were plastic pins and not the brass ones that could have cracked your board.

What I was hoping for when I created this thread was advice on what I might have done wrong. You are a shining example of the self-proclaimed know-it-all's that we "newbies" have heard about. I really hate resorting to child-like responses; but my offer is on the table for you punk...

SteelSix:
You need to chill out man. No one is trying to start anything. You are taking stuff way to personaly. It is only the internet. You asked for advice and you got advice, "it was probably the wrong sized pin". We even had somebody who said,"I've installed a few Blue Orbs myself and have caught myself doing the same thing. Wonder why I can't get damned pins in the holes, then I look and I'm trying to use the wrong holes"
I don't mean to pick on you, but could it be possible that instead of a problem with the corb(can I say that, kinda like blorb?) it could have been a problem with you not seeing the correct size of the holes?"

"Relax, Chill out, it's only the internet."

Perhaps I should do just that. Pardon me, I forgot. This is the internet. This is where people like "Flower-Boy" can get away with insulting people and not suffer immediate consequences.

Look into the mirror people. Most of you are homely, limp noodle types that don't have the balls to act in such a fashion face to face. If all who have responded to my initial post were in a room, and we were having this conversation live--well, let's just say it would have been over long ago.

Post away children. I'm done here...

Dude, relax. That response tells me that you:

a) Like most others who take the defensive, assume everyone else on the internet is a complete geek with no life that lack desireable physical, social, and financial attributes. Well, everyone except for yourself of course.

b) Might have some self-control/anger management problems considering it seems you can't hold an intellectual conversation/debate without resorting to fisticuffs.

c) Have a somewhat distorted view of reality considering no one is going to meet you in Atlanta to settle this. As so many have already noted, its the internet. Yes, people can do things to people here without repercussion, but really, what was so bad about what he said originally. He might have been able to phrase it a bit better, but again, intonation and expression are lost in print. Chances are it probably wouldn't have sounded as bad in the context of a discussion.

Chances are, you are none of the above, b/c I'm basing it on a single instance where you got a bit hot. Point is, you can assume any persona here, and you can also be easily/grossly misinterpreted from a few words.
Lighten up.....don't take people's responses so seriously; if you can manage that then you will soon find out that these boards really aren't as bad as your friend cracked em up to be.

The Crystal Orb is actually designed for CHIPSETS, not video cards. So some "engineering" is required for use with video cards.

BTW, Steelsix, "in the past" did you install blorbs on other GF3's of the same brand and model? It is not strange to hear that some manufacturers vary from the reference design for their HSF mounting holes.

also, you responded to my verbal comments with threats of physical violence... what does that say about you? If we were in a room together and you asked me for my opinion of why the square peg doesnt fit in the circle hole, I'd still tell you off the same way :D

vailr, the CORB is labeled "for chipsets", but is actually aimed at the video cooling market ;) Look at how many Blorbs they sold! I am not looking forward to the latest POS from Tt.

I'm using a GF3 Ti500 on a 14" monitor, is that just as bad?:Q:Q:Q

Yah, with high-rez cards and tiny monitors, you lose the benefits of running games/desktop/apps at high resolutions.....unless you wear magnifying glasses which would probably give you a bad headache and possibly cause you to vomit ;)

Actually, I was just kidding about the 14" monitor. If you check my rig in my sig, you can see that I am running a 19" IBM P96(FD Trinitron) monitor.:)

You're right, it would have been if i'd been there. i own a Glock. i guess that whatever dojo you went to forgot to teach you the very first lesson: "martial arts are for self-defence and only for last resort. one does not use these skills for aggression, or to make you seem like a bigger man" (at least that's what i was taught at the first lesson).

LoL Edipis, dats funny :)

<< What if it is an LCD monitor >>

If you're using an LCD at high resolutions (>1152) everything will look very nice, but if you are playing games or even trying to manage stuff on your desktop, it will be like trying to catch a fly with chopsticks like in Karate Kid (sorry, couldn't help but toss in the reference with all the martial arts flying around this thread :p )
