Crysis

I wanted to know if 'Crysis' can run on a graphic card which supports only DirectX 9.0c and Shader Model 3.0 (but does NOT support DirectX 10)?

What card? Crysis may run on your card, but if it's not recent it might have to run at 800x600.

Man, my card is a NVidia GeForce 7300 gt (512MB). It's not good at all, outdated to say the least. But I'll be getting a new rig soon, so that's good. I ran Splinter Cell Double Agent on the card and it was okay at 800 X 600, anything higher and it would slow down.

Btw, can you suggest a good AGP card (my MoBo only supports AGP type cards)?

I was actually surprised the the 7300 gt ran SC😀A! I'll load Crysis and see what happens...!

What is your CPU and the rest of your rig like?

the fastest AGP card is HD3850

the next fastest would be x1950p/512M

that is about "it"

and how does Crysis play? .. i can play 16x10 "very high" with my Crossfire rig at about 15 FPS ... at best 😛

got turn down the details

If you haven't already bought/ordered the game, I highly recommend you download the demo first. You don't want to spend $45 on a game that runs at 10FPS on the lowest settings. 😛

(For the record, I don't know what kind of performance you will get with the 7300GT - even at the lowest settings - but I'm certain it will be weak.)

i got it today for $32 from NewEgg
[after shipping it is less than $40 .. except for tax]

and it is optimized, unlike the demo

i got Crysis to benchmark it .. and it will be only 15 hours more to get the 1.02 patch for it over dialup

Thanks for the AGP card help! I got to upgrade my RAM, 1 GB is not good enough. The strange part was I have 2.4 Ghz and Splinter Cell DA needs 3.0 I think...but it ran okay!

True, I'll have to turn down the details in Crysis a lot but if I can get a decent framerate then it'll be great. I'll pick up the game maybe tomorrow or something and try it out. Once the game rolls I'll post back with how it ran. Btw, if Crysis runs on directX 9.0 then with direct X 10 support...does it make the game look way better?

Try the Demo

it is a free D/L

and Crysis is not yet optimized DX10/Vista64 - it looks more "photo realistic" than ANY other game[period] on the DX10 pathway!!!

when it finally optimized, it will run smoother and faster than on XP/Vista32 - but you will need Next Gen HW [GT200/r700] to run it - probably in SLi/CrossFire

Awrite, I'll run the game and post back with the results I got on my present AGP card mate! 🙂

Okay...I tried Crysis with my NVidia Geforce 7300 gt card today and managed to RUN it!!!

Graphics Settings:

Although the I can run the game on LOW settings fine on MEDIUM the frame rates are lower. I did not try on the HIGH settings at all and the HIGHEST quality thing is not available on my PC, that option is faded out. (I did not activate AA)

I'm actually very very glad that I could fire up the game and actually run it with my old card and 2.4 Ghz processor! Whew! 🙂

Oh a one more thing:

1. The resolution by default was 800 X 600
(I did NOT change it to anything lower/higher).

Yeah, that's about all I would expect out of a 7300gt. All options on low at 800x600. It will probably look pretty bad 😉

i play it at 'Very High'

that means everything maxed - except AA - with HD2900 CrossFire
[and occasionally i turn the 'shadows' to "high" as i really can't see any difference but it sure is faster]

.. but it's still kinda slow and a little micro stutter .. that sometimes becomes "jitter" and i long for any AA.

.. and it is only running at 10x7 on my CRT!!
.. 800x600 is too little for me .. but it finally runs almost OK at that resolution

sure is purdy, ma'am

@ themisfit610

Yes man, your right, the game doesn't look very nice on this card. Infact I was playing Farcry on pretty high settings and resolution last week, so it's hard to change to Crysis which is supposed to look way better but thanks to the card is not!

But anyways, I'm happy that the card atleast ran it! 🙂

@ Continuity28

A 7900 GT will run the game as my 7300 GT I think, on low settings and 800 X 600 resolution.

A 7900GT will run it much better then a 7300GT. Especially considering the 7900GT is PCI express. I ran Crysis quite playable (maybe ~30fps or so) at 1024x768 with everything on Medium on a 7900GS. Of course, it was backed by my Core2 @ 2.8ghz with 2gb DDR2-800 .

@Raduque:

Okay...so there that's good news for Continuity28, he can play the game at much better settings. Yes, I think the PCI thing and the Core 2 with 2 gb RAM packed more to the game!

Btw though I played Farcry last week (I've played the game over and over!), I just feel that the AI was better in Farcry. Maybe it's just me, but I felt so while playing Crysis.
