I can not get this game to run smooth. My setup is in my sig. I'm not at home so dont have the exact settings but shaders, object quality, particles, post processing, are all on enthusiast. Everything else is on gamer. No AA.

Dialed the resolution down to 1680 from 1920 and still can't keep things lag free. Anyone have the max settings used for a similar setup for smooth FPS? I'm sure someone else has already done the leg work :)

I'd prefer to keep things at 1920 but every fire fight seems way too jerky.

I have to play at 1024x768 with things on gamer (motion blur on mainstream, because I don't like the heavy effects) and I still get massive jerking and slowdowns. It hits my HD hard and constantly and it freezes the whole game when it does.

I think it's a problem with my drive, though.

This is how Crysis work man! It lags and stutters all the time, no matter the hardware. ;)

Don't put everything in shaders and post-processing on enthusiast. That turns on several settings that have little effect on image quality but cause a big performance hit. I used a custom autoexec with most things on high except for the texture sizes, parallax mapping and sunbeams, which were on very high.

If Warhead is like the original game though, a few parts will slow down at practically any settings. I played the original on a GTX 280 at much lower resolutions and couldn't get the outdoor alien fights to run smoothly no matter what I tried. The fights with the Koreans generally ran okay though (usually staying above 40fps).

My PC crashes, or at least the video driver, when I use motion blur, so I just disable it.

Shaders and shadows really pound the performance hard at those resolutions. I have a OCed 4850 and a 3.0 GHz X2 (which is only slightly slower than a quad 6600 believe it or not). I put textures, water, and ojbects on the highest, everything else on mainstream except for maybe particle effects on gamer.

Really? I can't believe your X2 is that good man. Just slightly slower then a Q6600, huh? Amazing cpu you have there.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd post here. I'm running at 1680x1050 with everything on "Gamer" and no AA. I get between 20-30fps with the rig in my sig. So far everything has been playable...then I got to the snow level after getting on the sub. Now I'm crawling at less than 5fps.

I looked at Event View in Vista and noticed multiple instances of Event ID 500 "Video memory resources are over-utilized and there is thrashing happening as a result. Reducing number of running programs and open windows may help resolve this condition." Each time I run Warhead this warning event is generated and I've had 1 crash to desktop so far. Does this mean 512MB of vid ram is not enough? I've never gotten this warning with the original Crysis.

I didn't think it would use that much ram, but that event does seem to indicate that. I base that from this page, where towards the top of the OP is some memory usage figures. Of course this is for the original Crysis but as far as I know they are very similar graphically. At 1680x1050 with all settings on high, no AA, he found usage to be 368 MB. So even with various differences between configurations, it seems like you would have plenty of video memory at that resolution. It looks like AA makes the biggest difference.

I'd play around and lower some settings (sounds like you'll need to drop settings or the resolution regardless) and see if that event stops coming up.

There's maybe a 3-4 FPS difference in Crysis. For gamers, an Intel at 6600 really has to be overclocked to 3.0 GHz or more, IMO, to make a real difference. At least for that price.

I play on 1680X1050 with everything on the very highest settings, with no motion blur, no Vsync and no AA. I never checked my FPS, but it plays smoothly, start to finish.

With a 9800? DX9?

In the original, with my 4870X2 I was able to play at very high, lows of 20s and average of 30s. Vista 64bit, dx10, 1680x1050 and 2AA, at least until I got to the ship and had to fight that huge ship that comes up from the sea. That made me lag like nothing else, even on dropping the settings to just high and turning AA off. Then again, that area has major memory leaks for me (kept reaching 100% and I have 4GB ram), and crashed frequently.

Make sure you are playing in DX9 and not DX10. There is a significant performance boost from forcing DX9 and there are no visual benefits to running DX10 that I am aware of.

Make sure you are using the latest nVidia drivers.

I have no trouble playing Warhead @ Enthusiast @ 1680x1050 with a GTX 280. With a GTX 260 1920x1200 should be fine for the Gamer setting.

Yes, there is no point in using DX10 in this game. There are some very subtle changes in DX10 but you need to pore over screenshots to notice them, and things look merely different, not necessarily better.

Works great for me. Average 30 - 40fps on Gamer setting, 1440 x 900 rez, DX10 mode. Does dip into low 20's in some areas. Perfectly playable to me.

So I tried the whole running in dx9 and doing the CVarGroup edits to get the same effects.. The last level on the ship ran at 30-40fps vs. 10-30fps.. Still looked the same as far as I can tell too.

Odd though, going back to saved games where I thought the graphics were rather impressive, they still looked fine, but FPS was horrible. I went in and out several times to test it, DX10 vs DX9 and some places in DX9 would drop to 8fps! Load those same areas up in DX10 and I'm getting 20+fps.

Interesting..

Perfect fps at what settings? It's impossible to play it on Very High without lag or stuttering on the system in your sig on a decent resolution.

A follow up for whoever is interested.

1680x1050
Shaders = Enthusiast
Everything else = Gamer
No AA

That give me an average in the 40s and I haven't lagged out in the last hour.
