I personally am not a fan at all of escort missions at all. Escorts usually only serve to show of how stupid a game's AI really is, as the escorted NPC crawls along at a snail's pace into enemy fire.

I do agree about the difficulty level though, it could be more challenging. However, I think the Crysis franchise is really a stealth FPS, so I don't really see the need to make the games more intense or stressful. That is actually what I don't like about COD4 (I only played the demo). COD4 is too stressful, and there is always some yelling at you to "go here", "do this", "grab this gun", and "hurry up". After about 5mins of that, I'm thinking "STFU!", and I quit playing.

I think the three biggest improvements to making the Crysis series more challenging would be:

1) Smarter AI
2) More AI
3) A lot less ammo.

If they could manage to do these three things, I think I'd have to give the game a 9.5 or maybe even a 10/10.

Yes, I've had this happen quite a few times...

In follow up to my first post, I am playing through it now on Delta and the difficulty level is much better, although it could still be a little tougher and be fun. It comes nowhere close to being as hard as COD4 on it's highest level (for me that was a little too hard on a few of the missions), but Delta level on Warhead is ok for a fun, reasonably challenging difficulty level.

I am only to the part, just after you rescue Oneill from the plane, so my opinion could change, but so far it is better. Even though it could still be harder and be fun, I am not constantly thinking about how I wish it was harder, while playing.

Over at the Crymod website they have an AI mod for Crysis that makes the enemy much more aggressive. The author is working on a Warhead version. This might be of interest to some of you looking for a more realistic or difficult game.

Just finished Warhead today and really enjoyed it. THe Far Cry and Crysis games I have always liked. I think it really is the environment and the gameplay that Crytek has put together.

Well, I'm a month late, but I made it. Finally picked it up today, and just found out that I got gauged $10. I payed $40 at EB when the big boxes had it for $30 (mother...); I thought the 'low price' everyone talked about was $40 instead of $50. I'm kicking myself now as to why I didn't check over the course of a month on what the price was. Oh well, not the first time.

By the way, not much talk on Crysis Wars?

Crysis Wars is pretty exciting. It's definitely leagues ahead of the originals' MP.

I'm only interested in Wars cause I had to pay more, so feel compelled to squeeze every last drop (last time I bring it up;)). Ya, I don;t really feel like getting raped by 24/7 players though.

TIA Battlegrounds is a blast and a perfect place to learn the basics. It should take maybe an hour or two to get accustomed to the game play and before you know it you'll be p@wning..

Ok, finished the SP in about 7 hours-ish. Kinda short, but it's an expansion.

Gotta say I liked Crysis better. I liked the slower pace level, and the larger number of enemy bases to attack. People seemed to die faster this time around on 'Harder'. Same goes for the bosses. You actually get feedback on the damage you're doing as opposed to the last level of Crysis, where you started to wonder if you missed anything or not after launching your 30th rocket at the exosuit. There also appeared to be more mine/interior levels, which I didn't love.

The 'mystery' of the island is gone this time around; can't help it when you know what's going to happen from the first game though. I wish they spent more time on human only levels. It's as if they rushed the alien story in too quickly. The story also didn't seem as cohesive.

Overall, it was pretty good. No regrets picking it up. I'll be going through it again in the next week, and probably try Wars.

Amazing game, I didn't have the balls to try delta, but after beating the game in one sitting on hard mode, I wish I did try delta. Overall Psycho's mission was a lot more enjoyable than Nomads. I played Nomad's last week and had to play through it in about 4 sittings mainly because I got burnt out after a few hours. Psycho's mission kept me reeled in from start to finish. Also the final boss was MUCH MUCH more satisfying to take down with the weapon psycho gets as opposed to the lame beam crap that Nomad got to use.

Alternate Ending
Pick up and drop all seven hidden frogs in the same playthrough to view an alternate ending. Note: Loading saved game files that do not have the previous frogs collected will not work.

Hidden Frog Locations
Search the indicated locations to find all seven hidden frogs (one per level) in the game:

Adapt Or Perish level: Get to the part after losing sight of Lee for the second time during the pursuit and reaching the KPA Nano-Suit soldiers fighting an alien exosuit. Go to the right, and walk up the hill with a resort bar on top. Inside the bar, enter the larger of the two bathrooms. On the toilet you will see a frog frozen to a book. Upon picking up the book, Psycho will exclaim, "It's Calmon! I've found him!" Once the book is thrown or dropped, it will explode.

All The Fury level: Once you reach the control tower, on the first floor, go to the room at the north end of the building. Once you enter the room, turn left. There are three refrigerators. Open the one in the middle to find the frog.

Below The Thunder level: When you get off the big yellow elevator that takes you up, find the metal grate on the roof. Shoot it, and jump up into the hole to enter the vents. Move through the vents, and keep taking left turns until reaching a dead end. You will find a cloaked frog on a red book titled "Croaking While Cloaking".

Call Me Ishmael level: After completing the "Join up with Sierra airstrike team" objective, follow the roads to the bottom of the hill, and go to the resort bar to the left. Continue through the resort bar, and follow the path down to the shore. Jump into the ocean, and swim east. On the other side of the large cliffs jutting out of the water, you will find a small island with a campsite at the far end. You will find the frog on a crate.

Frozen Paradise level: Once you reach the mining facility, use Strength mode to jump onto the roof of the largest building on the southwest corner of the facility. Once on the roof, fall off on the south wall of the building. You will land on a balcony and find the frog.

From Hell's Heart level: Immediately after you have gone through the second tunnel (including the one you started in), jump onto the train on the tracks to the right that stops at the end of the tunnel. While on the train, look right above the entrance to the tunnel to find the frog.

Shore Leave level: After fending off the KPA attacks against the stranded VTOL, look for a shack to the left near the shore. Walk along the beach to find an overturned boat. Knock the boat out of the way to find the frog.

Didn't get the chance to play the first Crysis, picked up Crysis Wars and I can say it is quite a bit of fun online. Haven't played single player much. Love finding a sniper cloaked and going max strength and surprising them with a sucker punch to the face. They look like they are sleeping just laying there as it is.

Crytek should really take their Crysis engine and make a game like STALKER Faction Wars. Make the main character one of those power suits (forget the name of their suits but Nomad / Psycho) but he goes rogue. Make it mission based, open sand box environment. You can setup a base, do different quests, ally yourself with the Koreans, US forces, Aliens and possibly some new factions thrown in for good measure. The idea being to take over the island and possibly complete any of a number of other major goals (such as a Korean main goal would be to take down some massive off-shore US forces), (US main goal is to stop the aliens and capture them).

You could recruit scientists to study captured aliens and use the technology to get new weapons. You know, hybrid RPG/FPS.

That game would be absolutely phenomenal.

Edit: To add to this, they could make the suit powers level up or unlock new abilities. Like strength would eventually allow you to leap long distances, rip trees out of the ground, punch your fist right through an enemies chest, etc. Stealth would eventually let you run long distanced stealthed, silence your foot steps, allow you to fire limited bursts without zapping your charge bar, etc.

Crytek really needs to take a good look at expanding their FPS into an RPG.

I totally disagree. Crysis it fun precisely because it isn't an RPG. Clear cut objectives, with multiple ways of completing them = fun. Talking to NPCs that know jack and having to manage an inventory != fun. (IMO)

There is multiple ways to complete objectives in Stalker. As is there in Deus Ex. Both are hybrid RPG/FPS games. I'm not talking about removing anything from Crysis, I'm talking about adding to it, making it a more rewarding experience. Crytek is wasting their time by making a massive sand box engine and then only using it to pave 1 path through to an end boss.

I know what you're saying, I've played STALKER... I just disagree. Crysis is not missing anything by not having NPCs, an inventory that's constantly full, annoying artifacts that do more damage than good, factions, reputation, level grinding, gear, and excessive diaglog. Crysis excels at being a solo shooter that lets you do most of that people who play FPSes want to do: shoot stuff.

You are also wrong in that their is only on path through to the end boss... Yes, the game only moves in one direction (no backtracking to turn in quests or other BS), but there are multiple approaches that can be taken to complete each mission in the game. IMO, it's actually refreshing to see a shooter stick to the 'classic' FPS format.

I have no problem with a shooter sticking to the classic format ala Quake 4, however, my point was that Crytek is wasting their strongest point, the fact that they've managed to create a free flowing large scale island that you pass through as if you were on rails. Especially considering parts like the train rides where you are basically shoved through a large part of the island with only a very cursory glance at it. I also don't really consider Crysis a "classic fps", even though it has a linear progression with limited other elements of game play. It's not classic in the doom/quake/duke nukem respect.

I think Far Cry had more elements of free form than Crysis did. For instance there was a base you could assault by hand gliding in.

It's a shame we disagree on this, but all I'm saying is that Crytek could use their engine to make an FPS version of Jagged Alliance. And it would be glorious.

Just started on it now that I finally finished Clear Sky and have some time to play something else. Far Cry 2 on the list after this.

Short version: Much leaner than Crysis, and much less clunky. Some of the optimization can be seen (pop in pretty visible in places), and the levels are less "wide open", which is a good thing because the kind of gameplay Crytek was trying to give us and the kind of levels they were using were directly contradictory. The new "streamlined" (read: more linear) levels allow the pacing to be better controlled and more enjoyable.

One thing I continue to notice: Though there isn't anything revolutionary about the Crysis titles, the production values are consistently highly impressive. The little touches like the dirt/blood spray onto your helmet face mask and the underrated voice acting go a long way. I'm talking about the voice acting you don't notice, like when *spoiler* entering the mine, one of the other Nanos with you has his little "Son of a bitch...we got another giant walker" spiel. Also, the radio chatter over the JSOC network. */spoiler*

Crytek really seems to want to make something special. Now that they figured out that the best parts of Crysis were the parts where they weren't trying way too hard with their design choices, they've produced a much more enjoyable game that focuses on keeping you entertained rather than having checkbox items like "wide open world!". Highly enjoyable, much more so than its predecessor.

Might as well bump instead making a new thread..

I started Warhead a few months ago, forgot about it after I started playing WoW. Started it up again yesterday and I was once again FLOORED by how good this game looks and feels. I spent like 15 minutes just walking around, shooting my gun, cutting trees down, etc. After that I finished the game as I was on the last level, unknown to me.

This is the finest FPS mechanics-wise I have ever played, period. Shooting, sounds, running, crouching, the camera, enemy reactions, environments, etc. are so refined and well done. This game is an absolute joy to play, and I'm so glad that technology has progressed so far.
