Gonna go back and play this game, it still amazes me that even by today's standards and technologies how GREAT these games are...

How is it NOT the best FPS of all time?

I really enjoyed Crysis and Warhead, despite the prevalent opinion that they were just "tech demos." Still go back and play them about once a year and enjoy it every time (especially Crysis, with the Tactical mod that bumps up the difficulty a good bit). NPCs could certainly have used a lot more variety and work though....they were all pretty much the same with variations of costume.

Crysis 2 and 3 I didn't enjoy as much. I feel like they dropped the ball on the story by scrapping Nomad and Helena (killing them off in the comic, I guess). Played through them a couple of times and don't really have much desire to go back. The games looked amazing, but just didn't have the feel and pacing of the first game.

I think, ultimately, I was wishing for Crysis to go the direction of FarCry - with open-world roaming and mission-based gameplay. The engine was really well suited for that, and I think they could have developed a great franchise in that direction.

Crysis was to computer games what Avatar was to movies. It was rated higher as a tech demo than it was as a game. I thought Crysis was pretty good, but best FPS of all time? No way. It was pretty but it didn't bring anything to the FPS scene that hadn't already been done by the likes of Far Cry.

After playing Crysis 2, I didn't even bother with Crysis 3.

The Crysis games were fun, but to be honest, I wish they had kept Far Cry (the original) going. I think the suit, while pretty cool, took away from the tactical enjoyment that Far Cry offered.

So why not just play it without using the suit's abilities...?

I love Crysis and beat Crysis,Warhead, and Crysis 2 but I have yet to even try out Crysis 3. Is it any good? Was thinking about getting the trilogy pack download code from ebay seeing how its so cheap.Dont laugh but I also thought Fear was pretty good back in the day as well.I remember playing through it and being home alone and getting all freaked out in the middle of the night.LOL wonder if they will ever make any more sequels to both these games?

Because the game was balanced and designed around using the suit abilities. While in Far Cry, being stealth was difficult, it was doable without a suit. In Crysis, stealth pretty much requires the suit.

F.E.A.R. was a superb game....no laughing here. Interesting story with great gameplay. Too bad they pretty much mangled the "story" component with F.E.A.R. 2.

I bought the game mainly for the MechWarrior mod but I enjoyed playing through the single player campaign. The multiplayer seemed pointless though.

Fear 2 was decent, Fear 3 was the one that was god awful.

I really enjoyed the first Crysis, but I think I still liked FarCry better.

I see your point. What'd you think of Far Cry 4? It seems to be kind of what I'm hearing you miss about FC... unless, by 'continuing' FC you mean the exact story line of Jack Carter and/or that universe... in that case, I agree. It was pretty cheesy, almost serious-sam-like towards the end, but i'll be damned if it wasn't fun!

I'm not saying I want a continuation of Jack Carver or even the same scenario, just the same style of combat and missions.

As you know, the franchise was sold and doesn't have much to do with the original game. I have not played FC4 or FC2. I did play FC3, and it was fun. I'll eventually play FC4. I never played FC2 because I knew it was nothing like the first, and kept hearing reports on how repetitive it was.

The original game was quite fun to me and very challenging.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it was Jack Carver, not Carter.

Crysis 2 and 3 are highly underrated by fanboys of the first game.

Since it is impossible for you to actually prove what you said, I'll actually counter it with facts. Metacritic displays composite scores of 86 and 76 for Crysis 2 and 3, respectively. Normally I wouldn't use Metacritic as a source due to the tendency for scores to be dynamic in the first days of release, but in both cases the scores are mature and represented by over 1,000 reviews each by fanboys, non fanboys, and professional critics alike. Generally speaking, the gaming community as a whole rate both Crysis 2 and 3 as average to good games.

Since the first Crysis holds a Metacritic score of 91, either the entire gaming community is underrating Crysis 2 and 3 and the games were actually better than the scores let on or you are overrating them and the scores adequately reflect their quality. I carry the opinion that professional reviews tend to lean more positive for AAA titles, I'd say the scores are slightly better than they probably deserve. However, I live in the real world and I understand error budget so I'll just take them as they are.

FEAR 2 took what made FEAR 1 great, and turned it into a console game, like what happened with Crysis 2.

i did not like crysis 1, because i thought it ridiculous that you could pump half a mag of AK into a straw-hat-wearing vietcong* at point blank in his face and he wouldn't die.

i really liked crysis 2 if i recall correctly, where you are in NYC and you take prophet's suit and attack the mothership. loved ripping the LMG off vehicles, best videogame moment 11/10 would rip again.

I enjoyed 1 a lot, 2 was "meh", 3 was very nice and visually stunning (seriously, I can't believe we're not seeing more games with graphics like C3).

Crysis 1 is definitely one of the greatest games of all time. Idiots love to spout the "graphics aren't everything" cliché, but I don't see what it has to do with Crysis. Sure, Crysis had spectacular visuals, but it also had superb sound, impressive physics (more than just a spectacle, actually contributing to gameplay), and excellent gameplay in general. Further, being a true flagship PC game (the last of it's kind), it had all the perks that entails such as a very flexible saving scheme, delicate PC-centric HUD, and an elegant and comprehensive set of menus/UI. It feels like a quality PC game from the moment you enter the menu, as opposed to the tacky consolized mess you'll find in something like 'Far Cry' 3.

Well said. Not to mention that the game included Crytek's full-bore SDK (not just a gimped level editor) that included all of the games scripts, assets, music, etc. If there was ANYTHING you wanted to change in the game (damage values, AI detection behaviors) you could jump in and do it.

I turned all the LoDs off and increased draw distance across the entire first level one time. It was the prettiest slideshow ever. ;)

It was also the only real-time drop-in at any place SDK I know of at the time. Create anything you want, press CTRL G, bam, you're playing (with no need to bake lighting).

With all that the first game was, I was incredibly hyped for Crysis2. I figured they would just take everything to the next level again. Man was I wrong.
