In other words, $350 hardware is useless to play the game at a decent resolution (no, 1280x1024 is not a decent resolution in this day and age).

Disheartening.

What about 1680x1050? AA, AF, and the 320 mb GTS vs the 640 mb GTS ?

I know its a little less pixels than 1600x1200 but they said, for 1600x1200 or higher you'll need faster hardware. Think I could maybe squeeze out enough performence if I overclocked my Geforce 8800 GTS 320 mb a little bit or by the time Crysis comes out I will want to upgrade my video card again ?

Glad I didn't get the Geforce 8800 GTS 640 over the 320. That way I can upgrade to a faster video card for less money because I saved a extra $50 to $100 by not getting a 640 and $200 to $300 bucks by not getting a GTX.

GTX should be fine at 1600x1200 at least maybe a little higher. Even if I didn't want to upgrade the latest by the time Crysis is out I bet the GTX will be down to $400 or less! Hoping a lot less!

to be honest i wasnt impressed with the performance i saw in
splinter cell: DA, r6 vegas, dirt, or bioshock.
so if i CAN actually get max settings at 1280 (with avg fps of like 60), then i'll be deliriously happy.

and i'll say so myself that my rig is at least mid-top of the line.

If this isnt allowed, then please delete.

MAXPC:
Will players be able to play Crysis in DirectX 10 mode on highend
hardware at high resolutions (1600x1200 or higher) using current gen hardware (Geforce 8800 GTS and up, or Radeon 2900 series boards)?

Yerli:
I believe in maximum settings you will run at 1280 resolutions,
but to run even higher you need a better configuration.
However , that is because we feature out-of-the-box future-proof technology and settings that will keep Crysis sate-of-the-art looking even for the next-generation hardware, allowing the PC gamer to take advantage of evolution!

MAXPC:
As the game nears its release date, has the development team found it necessary to scale back any features in order to obtain reasonable performance on midrange hardware, with midrange hardware being defined as an Intel Core Duo E6600 (or AMD equivalent), 2gb of memory, and either a Radeon HD 2900 XT with 512mb of memory or a
Geforce 8800 GTS with 640mb of memory.

Yerli:
If thats midrange for you , then not at all!
This spec is well within our plans.
Most important to us is that we scale Crysis from a three-year-old configuration (by release date) to a current and next-gen configuration and take maximum performance from the available hardware.
Our benchmark has been to compete for various generations of hardware alongside the
generations of games shipped around them.
For example, our min spec is competing with Far Cry, and that's over three-and-a-half years old.

Now being a pc gamer, i tend to try to "read-between-the-lines".
I see nothing about how well those with a 320mb 8800 or equivalent will be able to run the game.
I see nothing saying a 768mb 8800gtx will be able to run the game maxed at 1920x1200 or higher.

Other info says,
Crysis will not be supporting GPU or dedicated physics processors for a variety of reasons. (thank god...LOL)
And Crysis will run best on Quad core , but will do great on a dual core configurations also.

good news,I play @ 1280 x 720 on my projector.I'm guessing you need at least a dual core cpu though to max it out .

I don't care what they say I will get it to work at 1680x1050 with all details on high. I just wonder if it will support AA and will a GTS or GTX be able to handle 4x AA at this resolution ?

What the writer said, is very subjective. Good, playable, smooth, etc. are all subjective. I got that mag too, and knew people would run with it.

LOL
I remember days of GF2 when I had an integrated Intel 815 (I think) and 64 MB of RAM. I played all current games (HL, UT, Q3) at Low/Medium 640x480 or 800x600 if got lucky. Nowadays I hear a lot of ppl complain how they can't run the game at over 60FPS at 1920x1080 with AA and AF maxed out in addition to a 2 gig custom MEGA-SUPER-OMG-WTF-BBQ-INSANE-HIGH-QUALITY texture packs. What's happening to the world? :D

yes tahts when top of the line meant 200-250 bucks.
youre lucky if u can get a "budget card" (8800gts laff) for that price now awadays.
a highend solution is considerd as dual ultras, which is close to 2 grand...
so yes when you start paying money like that, you damn well better start expecting stuff

as a brand new game pushing the graphics envelope, i would think 1280x1024 *maxed* is an excellent resolution/detail set. this means that you get a *reasonably* high resolution with great detail - and if you desire a higher res you can start subtly taking out details.

i think i'll be able to run crysis on either 1280x1024 low / 1024 medium / 800 high. not bad for 3 generations old tech (X850XT). of course it's just a guess - september 25th can't come soon enough :D

yep. considering my monitor has a max res of 1280x1024, im pretty sure this news makes me very excited for Crysis. :D
But I always normally play at 1280x800, I just enjoy the widescreen view.

My monitor has 1680x1050 for a native res, but I'm more than happy to scale it to 1024x768. Since when is an 8800GTS "mid-range'? I'm pretty sure 7600GT thru 8600 GTS qualifies as mid-range.
