And what a turd it was.. is!

Sure, the forrest setting is nice. very nice.
But.

- Unloading 30 rounds into the torso of an enemy, and while he may yank out an "auch!" a few times or ten, he's still standig there in his nice fresh pressed pants without a spot on em.
It's really mindboggling how many rounds these fckers can take to the chest and keep breathing.

- The enemy dies. And he lies there and he stays there. You can pretty much do whatever including the famous reverse dual split michael jackson moon dance over his face. there's no moving about this corpse, no sir!

- scalability over 4 cores. Inspecting utilization of cores actually how that counterstrike source does a much better job, and while at it taxing a bigger total sum of cpu than crysis.

- details. while the facial details on some characters are good, most just look like they're reallife foto's plastered on a flat texture surface. it makes an artificial look to it while im sure the opposite was the intention.

- those alien thingies. I mean damn. I do have all my settings on high. But that sht looks like something out of dukenukem3d (i loved duke, really, but it was 10 years ago).

Not impressed, no sir', I expected more.

can't say I had the same experience..... I'm not saying that it was the best game I ever played but a turd....... far from it.

allright .. perhaps not a turd in the sense of a turd but a turd none the less in the form of distance from hype to average wich about equals the distance for a normal game from average to turd.

so its not a turd-turd (it had the potential to be, given the high expectations) but just a turd (wich is really only half a turd if distance is relative).

thats alot of turds! :)

I think the game is fun. I usually kill enemies in one shot, but then I don't kill many enemies. I usually went through the game like I did in Hitman, trying to kill as few as possible while getting the job done. I thought it was great at that, but then I haven't played the Alien part yet.

don't shoot them in the chest

were you playing on High? the faces look incredible due to the bump mapping and they don't look flat

pretty sure CSS is single threaded

I was going to say, in games the 1 shot killzone is almost always the head/face (though in real life it's slightly above the abs).

I do concur though. I was excited to get crysis, and once I finally did I was greeted with "Meh." Nothing special. About the most fun I had was driving into things/people with vehicles and then having the vehicle explode.

Yay, it's time again for the weekly Crysis bashing thread.

If it take you 30 shots to kill someone, I think you need to consider improving your aim.

It's been established many times that the game sucks.

What's been established is that some people are either never happy or just hold opinions contrary to the vast majority of other consumers. Crysis got nearly universal critical acclaim and several game of the year nods, over a million copies shipped, and an average score of 8.9 after almost 12,000 user votes at gamespot.

Not surprising, you can find people on AT who will tell you that The Godfather Part II was a piece of crap too.

Was Crysis the best game released last year? Nope. I think BioShock beat it hands down for story, feel, environment variety, immersion in overall tone and atmosphere. But Crysis was a very good FPS, with by far the best graphics to date, essentially unlimited draw distance, lots of weapon choices, a cleverly implemented techno-armor, and good AI. But vehicles handled terribly, the last 3rd of the game was uninspiring and the aliens were not fun to fight. Does this add up to a turd? Not even close. I don't know what people were expecting but this game was a lot of fun and better than 90% of other FPS released last year.

Crysis was a good game... dont know what people were expecting that caused them to hate it, i guess they just never played farcry before so they didnt have a clue what to expect. Crysis is like farcry with better graphics, a different storyline (less interesting imo but has more potential and better characters) and a really cool suit!! Also te interface in changing suit modes is awesome, makes it easy to come out of stealth then grab a vietcong and max strength him over a cliff and go back into stealth again quickly, no fiddling around with the keyboard.

Great game, im looking forward to replaying it on a future card as my 7900GTO couldnt run it on high. Just like farcry, it ran ok on my 9800 pro but it was amazing a few years down the line on this 7900 GTO.

you can save a lot of ammo by being accurate and getting headshots. personally, i played the game like splinter cell and used stealth to get headshots. loved the sniper gun.

YACST!

Crysis was a good game, was it an all-time best EVAR title, maybe not, but it didn't have to be. People don't seem to understand that a game doesn't need to be perfect to be entertaining, just as movies don't have to have great acting, story, script to be entertaining. Crysis is like the 300 of PC games, its not a great movie, but it was still highly enjoyable. :)

Crysis has been lots of fun so far.

For those complaining about the number of shots it takes to kill someone, just aim for the head. It's an insta-kill, unless you accidentally hit their helmet. Then, the next shot will be an insta-kill. I'm assuming that the Koreans has some sort of advanced body armor that allows them to soak up gunfire, you know, kind of like how your armor allows you to take a billion bullets and be okay. And it still doesn't take 30 bullets. I would say 10-15 at most.

As far as the visuals, Crysis is a pretty game. On my not-so-beefy laptop (not even an actual tower), I can run Crysis at a smooth 30 fps on medium settings. Even on medium, the game looks pretty great. I can only imagine what it looks like on very high.

My disappointment with the game stems with the stupid mine glitch. That pretty much ruined the enjoyment of Crysis for me.

What is the mine glitch you speak of?

If you are walking through the minefield, don't

After you rescue to hostage from the School, when you have to blow up the two tanks, there is a common glitch that after you blow up the tanks you will be left with no knew objective. The only options are to restart the level entirely or just wander around until you find the next area you are supposed to go to, which is pretty difficult given the openness of Crysis.

I believe the next area you go to is a mine or a cave or something, which is why I called it the mine glitch. I could be mistaken, though.

One thing I definitely agree with OP on: it's pretty crazy that you can't move/affect/desecrate/obliterate/throw/blow up/shoot corpses. I thought it was a but at first, since even as far back as Half-Life, you could destroy corpses (probably back further, but HL is the first game I remember bashing corpses after I'd killed them)

This happened to me. Although I found the correct path rather quickly and just continued on until I got the new objective - didn't think there was much to it.

As for the rest of the posts. Crysis was a great looking game. Period. It IS the best looking game out there (Maybe UT3? hmm). Gameplay wasn't anything incredible, but it wasn't a terrible game.

Oh, yeah, it runs mostly fine on high with a good rig. Unless 5 people start shooting at you and then it runs like balls. Or if there's snow. Oh, well let's turn it down to Medium; see what happens. Oh, now it doesn't look that great. Oh what and awesome game... and it's not even that fun. It also has one of the worst levels in a game ever (in the VTOL)! AWESOME!
The dislike of Crysis is well deserved.
Runs pretty well on high in my rig unless a firefight starts. Runs pretty badly on the snowy levels.

I personally love flying the vtol. It's not too bad if you practice a bit and get used to it, or if you played the mp. If you think killing aliens is hard with the vtol, try killing a human pilot while not having the luxury of being able to lock on with your missiles.

You can also find some custom configs that look and perform pretty well if you rig can't handle high.

Long distance killing is flawed in the game. Unless you use a one hit sniper rifle, do not try it. It doesn't matter if you hit them 10 times in the chest with your gun, they won't die. It's just a bug or something in the game, i've tested it a lot in SP. I think bullets just do less damage at longer ranges.
