Crysis crashes in fullscreen mode on 4870x2

So I just put together my new system:

Core i7 920
6GB DDR3
Radeon 4650 Card for third monitor

I threw my old 4870x2 in the system, installed Vista 64, and I thought everything was cool. Every game I've tried runs fine, but Crysis will not go into fullscreen mode on my 4870x2. It will, however, do so on my 4650.

As soon as I try to full-screen it on my 4870x2, it "stops working". Windowed mode is just fine on each monitor. I also can't start the game any way except through the highly-lame "Games" menu, but that's another issue.

Anyone have any ideas here? I'm using Crysis v1.2 and the 9.4 Catalyst drivers.

Try DX9 mode.

I was getting the same problem in FC2, Crysis, and Crysis:Warhead in DX10 mode but the 9.3 drivers have cured it for me. Haven't tried the 9.4 drivers.

I would try disabling your other monitors when you run it and maybe disabling your 4650 too. It definitely can work, I have a 4870X2 and it works fine for me. AFAIK though the 4870X2 can't run dual monitors and run in crossfire at the same time anyway so you'd be crippling the card for games by playing with dual monitors enabled I think.

yeah... not to mention that any radeon isnt good for crysis at all.. not even a bit... a 9700 blows a 4870x2 out the water in crysis...

I wouldn't be so sure. Drop by the Video forum and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Hey, that worked perfectly! I loaded it in DX9 mode, made it fullscreen, and then loaded up DX10 and it works. Thanks, man. for you.

Try getting an S3 Virge, it tramps the geforce gtx 5800 in crysis treacle pie demo with all the settings on very high. They're very cheap on ebay.

I have a Radeon 4870 and initially had problems running crysis in DX10 mode. I had to completely uninstall an app that came with my card (Gamer OSD??) which monitored GPU temp/fan speed. As a side note, disabling that app also fixed the problems I was having in WoW at the time.

What is a 9700? I see Nvidia has a mobile 9700. What are you talking about?
