oh give me a break. its perfectly playable on a 6800 gt. you have more than enough

Perfectly playable on a 7600gt and A64 3200+, so a 6800gt isn't too far off. Just turn the settings down. Ya, you pay out of the ass for a 8800XXX, but just cause you can't play at "very high", doesn't mean you shouldn't bother.

Maybe I'm missing something or I'm just not far enough into the game, but I don't get the big deal about Crysis. I recently upgraged my PC so I decided to try out Crysis and I don't think it looks as impressive as everyone had led me to believe. Right from the opening scene where you see the plane flying toward the island... the plane looked pretty crappy. Then as you parchute down... nothing impressive. But I figured, well, once I get to the island I'll be blown away. Nope. Most of the low ground cover foliage is the typical low res green blobs you see in any game. Some of the taller plants and trees look nice, but overall, nothing all that impressive. And this is with everything on "Very High".

I guess I just went into it expecting too much. But, again, maybe I'm just not far enough into the game.

Hmmm you weren't impressed at all once you got inside the plane and saw the detail on Prophet/Psycho and their Cryosuits? Granted, you don't see it much later, but the detail down to the pulses in the "veins" of the suit are pretty spectacular. But this level of detail is applied to pretty much everything in the game and scales well even at lower settings. Other things I really enjoyed were explosions, texture effects (like rain/water on the carrier flight deck), and foliage/terrain.

The character models were nice, but I didn't notice any of the pulses. Maybe it was just too late or something, but for some reason I was really let down. For example, you say you really liked the foliage and terrain, but I was let down there. One of the first thing I did after getting onto the beach was run up to some of the plants since that's where you can always find shortuts/sacrifices in graphics in games. And sure enough, most of the lower ground cover foliage had those low res leaves with indistinct/rough borders.... just like any other game. The tall plants and trees with the typical palm type leaves did indeed look nice, but most of the rest was standard fare.

The terrain also looked nice a whole, but indiviual items were pretty standard. For example, you could clearly see some of the "sides" on some of the rocks and tree trunks laying on the ground. Stuff wasn't as smooth/round as I expected. Again, maybe I just went in expecting too much. I'd just heard so much about how Crysis blows everything else away, but it really isn't that big of a difference. I was more impressed with overall presentation and atmoshpere of BioShock. Perhaps BioShock isn't as technically impressive, but the overall package isn't any less impressive, IMO.

Show me a screenshot of this on very high and I'll believe you. Nowhere in the game are the textures like this. Rather, Crysis has some of the best textures I've seen in any game.

Simple answer. PIRACY. If all the people who played Crysis ACTUALLY bought it, it would have sold a shitload more. I bought Crysis. Now that I'm thinking of it, how many of you guys actually bought it in this thread?

Yea its to bad that its a big hack-fest 24/7 and the engine sucks ass....

I agree about the multiplayer hack-fest comment... as for the engine sucking ass, you have got to be kidding me? I think Crysis is way beyond its time. Its an amazing game graphically and the story line isnt so bad. I would like more exploration ability during the later part of the game, but nothing is perfect. :p

I play it on High in 1440x900 and it looks damn good to me. I turn a couple things to medium and low to get the best playability. I will definitely be replaying this game in the future.
