Crysis 3 Optimized for PC at Launch:

"When Crysis 2 was released, it was built primarily to run on all platforms at launch. This meant that the graphics settings offered to PC users were just the same basic ones as offered on the Xbox 360 and PS3, since the DX11 features took considerable time and effort to perfect. Only later did EA patch the game to allow the full DX11 level graphics experience and the adjustments of the various rendering options it supports. The good news is that with Crysis 3, EA are supporting the PC fully at launch and have revealed the default advanced graphics settings, as can be seen below."

This should please a few people. The Configuration Utility that somebody created when Crysis 2 was released made it possible to juggle the graphics options to suit, both in appearance and performance. It looks like we'll be able to do that without needing a utility this time. As it should be.

Trying to run this on a GTX570 at 2560x1440, something tells me that i'd need every possible option available if i'm to tweak it enough to make the game playable. 😀

I've found the trend over the past year in PC gaming has really improved. We're seeing a lot more ports coming out which are actually polished and are optimized correctly for the PC. Look at Borderlands, Sleeping Dogs, Dishonored, and even COD BLOPS2. All came out properly optimized for PC. Rebindable keys, proper gfx and FOV settings.

I would hardly put COD in that list. I love the game but lets be real here... after 5 iterations of the same game with little to no upgrades in the graphics engine it BETTER run well.

That said, yes a lot of the cross platform games have been pretty good lately. I haven't felt too held back by my single GTX570 which is nice. I would also add Skyrim to that list. It was much more stable (for me) than Oblivion was on the PC.

If you were around for the launch of the original BLOPS you will understand how immense of an improvement BLOPS2 is. No it's not the most amazing looking game, but at least the graphical options are there, and 90 degree FOV for once. Wow!

This might be a hint that studios/devs are planning for the next gen of consoles. They are speculating on what the power of the next platform is without actually having a dev kit. My bet is that when they are finally announced, we will start seeing options disappear again.

To my understanding, Crytek already has the SDK for the new xbox and have resource guidelines. Not sure about PS4 tho.

I did not play the original BO on PC, you're right. I did play MW3 though and just didn't care for the game in general so I didn't put enough time in to really compare. BO2 did improve greatly in the netcode though it seems... matchmaking happens very fast and I haven't had a game disconnect yet which wasn't the case with other CODs. And that's true of both PC and console versions I've played.

I am still kind of disappointed that Microsoft hasn't included a lot of this functionality into the base OS. It would be nice for example to have the keybindings exposed outside of game and have common ones applied automatically. Would also be nice to have much of the FOV, vsync etc settings common and overridable for particular games.

I would hazard a guess that those people who use Vsync and triple buffering want it in all the games they play and those that turn it off want it off in all their games. I want the OS to provide more.

So its nice that the devs are still spending the time to do PC conversion in this way, but its a shame they have to do so much.

The Vsync thing is a good point as well. Users should always have the ability to turn this on and off. Personally I can't stand Vsync as it always causes a bit of input lag regardless of framerate. Skyrim for example had no option to disable vsync. Forcing in through the NV control panel caused an issue as well.. The mouse sensitivity was locked to the framerate. Indoor areas the mouse would fly all over place, outdoors it was too slow to be usable.

BF3 is a lovely looking game, but its not exactly a PC thoroughbred. The interface that is used is slow to use for a gamer with keyboard + mouse. We have shortcuts, we have macros etc that allow us to select things quicker. BF3 is full of click through boxes where there is only left or right to select your weapon or attachement. But on a PC I should be able to see them all and select the right one.

So while I like the fact that this will likely be ported well, I still expect it to be suboptimal for the control scheme available on PC. Do we get 3D virtual glasses support? Other companies are doing it and I want my Occulus Rift already!

Hey guys, I am going to build a new pc soon to mainly play crysis 3 so I wanted to know whether I can play Crysis 3 on an i3 3220 and gtx 660 on 1366 x 768 resolution on very high settings?

At 1366x768? That's barely higher than 720p. Yeah, a GTX 660 should be fine for that. You might want to step up to something like a Radeon HD 7950 or a Geforce GTX 670 if you ever play at 1680x1050 or 1920x1080. 1366x768 is pretty low nowadays as far as PC gaming goes.

Also, you may want to get a true quad core CPU like an i5-2500K or 3570K. CPU performance isn't just effected by screen resolution, but by stuff like NPC and enemy AI, physics, animations, etc.

Going back and thinking about the original topic... It should be optimized for PC. Afaik Crysis 3 is being made with the same engine as C2. All the dx 11 features and all the other PC features you expect have already been implemented so there's no reason they wouldn't exist in C3.

PC Game ? I see no controls for anti-aliasing anywhere... :sneaky:

Cryengine 3 makes heavy use of deferred lighting so it's par for the course not to support MSAA. But they do use a post-AA that is very close to SMAA(worked on by the same people but took divergent paths) that is tied into the Post Processing setting.

Hey thanks for replying...

the problem is that I dont have the budget right now and in my budget I can only go with an i3 3220 and a gtx 660 and I will be playing on a monitor with 1366x768 resolution only and I really want to play this game on launch. If I change to a fx 4300 or fx 6300 which are priced almost similar to the i3 3220 will that be better? How about a 7850 instead of gtx 660?

Love my 7850 and i have found my 7850 would run like a champ at 1440x900 on ultra being higher then 1366x768,got it clocked to 1050/1450 and even at 1920x1200 it would run games like BF3 at 60fps on high settings with 45+ fps.

I would highly recommend the 7850 any day for sure, its a fantastic card with a good price, good thermals with aftermarket cooling or a third party brand like msi or gigabyte and overclocking capabilities, what more can you ask for?

which 7850 variant do you have? In my country the gigabyte hd 7850 is about 20% cheaper than the gigabyte gtx 660 so I am really thinking of getting the gigabyte hd 7850

Got the msi twin frozr 3 model,it's priced a little higher then other 7850s but i heard good things about this particular card,so went with it.

If your going to overclock,i think the majority of people would say to go with the 7850 and if your not,go with the gtx 660.

If your lucky,a 7850 can be overclocked damn near 7950 performance, that is what attracted me to the 7850 for the most part.
