7970 and 36% over 580 is nothing to write home about.
We'll have that much in same generation with Titan. Alas, with a hefty price.

Keep in mind many people didn't even bother with the 580 because it was so horrendously overpriced. A lot of people saved $200-250 right off the bat and grabbed HD6950 2GB and unlocked it. GTX580 doesn't really make any tangible difference over HD6970 2GB in this game. So that extra $ on the 580 was completely wasted for C3. Now that HD6950 @ unlocked user upgrades to HD7970/GTX680. Overclocked, those cards would deliver double the performance over the 6970, and the upgrade path was way cheaper due to the $200-250 saved from not getting a GTX580.

35%, What the heck are you talking about? It's 85%

He is comparing the last graph to a 925mhz 7970. It's been a theme since day 1: ignoring 20-30% overclocking of HD7970, or the fact that in 30 seconds in CCC, the slider moves to 1125mhz on stock voltage. A lot of people who upgraded to the 7970, not only overclocked it, but they were coming off GTX570/HD6950 unlocked. People with those 2nd tier cards flipped them fast and upgraded without losing much $ on them. I got my 6950 unlocked for $230 in Feb 2010 and sold it for $175 by summer 2011. $55 cost of ownership for more than a year. By now the 580 probably lost $300 of its value and it's slower than 680/7970 cards too which means 580 users are stuck between a rock and a hard place. If someone still has a 580 now, they either have the same upgrade path we had 12 months ago (7970/680) or $1000 for Titan. In hindsight the 580 was one of the worst purchases in a while unless you dumped it way back. This is because now that card is barely worth anything and prices on 680 haven't even come down. By the time 20nm GPUs come out 2H 2014, the 580 will be worth $130-140.

I have zero complaints about the performance on my 680 @ 1920x1200. Using the lowest setting of SMAA which looks good to me, can't notice any alaising while playing and my minimums are in the low 40's.

I was getting ready to scour the buy/sell forum to find a good deal on a 2nd 680 as I fully expected my minimums to be in the mid 20's with no AA at all.

1920x1200
SMAA (lowest setting)
Motion Blur: Off
Lens Flare: Off
Everything else: Very High

GPU Core: +85 MHz
GPU Mem: +115 MHz

Game is brutal at 3850x1200 (bezel compensation) lol. Having to drop down to high settings with SMAA on Medium. Get around 40fps with that.

Just installed Crysis 3 and it really is a GPU killer.

I am playing 3 30" monitors @ 5160x2560 using 4x EVGA GTX-680 Classified in 4-Way SLI with everything on "Very High" and SMAA MGPU (2x) and 16xAF and I get the following:

4 way SLI HAHA

Seriously what kind of scaling do you get with the 3rd and 4th card?

You got 4 GPU's and only 2GB of VRAM LOL

This is a Gaming Evolved title and AMD said in their conference call that AMD cards supply an "oustanding gaming experience". seems like 25FPS counts as outstanding in AMD's book.

anyway it's unfair to include the GTX690 in the chart without at least testing the 7990 as well.

Yeah, the marketing text is awesome
SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKETWIRE) -- 02/19/13 -- AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the North American launch of its Gaming Evolved title "Crysis 3." Working closely with Crytek, elite AMD engineers optimized "Crysis 3" to enable incredible performance on AMD Radeon™ graphics cards, powered by the award-winning AMD Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture. The AMD/Crytek alliance accelerates "Crysis 3" with the world's fastest1 graphics processing unit (GPU), the AMD Radeon™ 7970 GHz Edition. This announcement comes just two weeks after the launch of the highly acclaimed "Never Settle: Reloaded" bundle from AMD.
"'Crysis 3' is designed and optimized to be played on AMD Radeon graphics. No other GPU delivers the visual experience or next-generation features of AMD Radeon," said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD Graphics. "Our close collaboration with Crytek means the robust AMD GCN architecture is fully exploited by 'Crysis 3' code paths. We set out to deliver the best gaming experience possible for enthusiasts, and frankly we've accomplished this through the Gaming Evolved program. The best way to enjoy it is through the 'Never Settle Reloaded' bundle."
"To deliver hyper-realistic experiences, no other PC game demands more from the graphics processor than 'Crysis 3,'" said Cevat Yerli, CEO and president, Crytek. "By choosing AMD Radeon graphics, gamers experience 'Crysis 3' in stunning visual clarity, even when settings are cranked to the max .The launch of 'Crysis 3' is just the beginning of an exciting relationship with AMD and its Gaming Evolved program, which will help fuel development of future CryEngine™ titles. Together, AMD and Crytek will help redefine the PC gaming industry."
Really, i think these people are still drunk since friday. :hmm:

Well FXAA is the least taxing of all the AA so it will perform slightly better than SMAA and slightly worse than no AA at all.

FX8350 is beating i7 2600K. Holly crap. That means if a game is properly coded to take advantage of the 8-modules in the Vishera, it's not so bad! The era of dual-core CPUs is over: i3 falls apart.

That is actually pretty good on the surface, although a tiny bit misleading considering very few (I would guess?) run 2600K @ 3.4Ghz. I run my 2700K @ 5Ghz (4.8 if my room is particularly warm). I'd bet most people run 8350s around 4.5Ghz? If scaling is as expected, then they should be basically the same performance, perhaps a tiny bit faster on 2600K/2700K, but not enough to really be anything to worry about.

$ for $ though, Crysis3 is another title that the FX chips runs just fine. It's a Far Cry (heh) from the Skyrim/SC2 performance woes (which are mainly due to poor/archaic programming).

I think I'll do for Crysis 3 what I did for 1 and 2.
Wait a couple of years and buy it on Steam sale 10 or so bucks
Max that puppy out on max settings and the "best of" mods and enjoy.
Thanks goodness for games backlog to keep me busy until then.

I can wait until HD8XXX \GTX7XX card hit the scene.

Is it just me, or is this game an awful lot of dark. As in dusk and night most of the time.
I'm constantly using nanovision.

This is impossibru!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

^_^ If future games are multi-threaded this well, and Steamroller brings a 20-25% increase in IPC, AMD could become more competitive. Seems to me their modular CPU design was too forwarding thinking relative to the software landscape. If PS4/720 consoles ship with their rumoured 8-core CPUs, hopefully games will start taking advantage of 6-8 cores. I've been bored of 'upgrading' from quad-cores to quad-cores since my Q6600 all the way back in 2007 because 98% of games can't use more than 4 threads well. If I saw that most games use 6-8 cores, I would spend $500 for an 6-8 core CPU.

I'm just a couple hours into it but I haven't used nano-vision yet. Maybe turn the brightness up?

It was made that way to boost performance on Nvidia hardware.

😛

Sure is weird booting up a Crysis game to the AMD Gaming Evolved logo instead of TWIMTBP. Someone at AMD needs to be told that a little audio to go with the logo makes a 10fold better impression than just silence and the symbol there.
