I'm a PC gamer, and I have crysis 2 already on PC and have been playing it on very high.. about 6 hours in.

I went up to the local gamestop to buy a ps3 for my roommate (he was working a double and gave me the cash), and when I got there, one of their demo consoles had crysis 2 on it, and a teenager that works at the store next door was playing it. He had just gotten the gun from prophet and was just starting to play.

He was raving about it. He hadn't heard of Crysis before and apparently just came over to play a game for a bit before he went into work. He plays COD and he was basically saying the same thing as beev, that it was gorgeous and plays well.

I think PC gamers who were spoiled by Crytek's original Crysis are seeing Crysis 2 with a critical filter causing a negative perspective, where as people who know nothing of Crytek or Crysis are seeing this game as just downright awesome.

It doesn't help that Crysis has a slew of high res texture mods and other things to make it look amazing that people are used to. IMO when I started Crysis up for the first time ~a week or so ago I was kind of disappointed. I know it's 3-4 years old but some people still call it the best looking PC game these days. Well, it's not. After some texture updates it looks like what I expected. Crysis 2 seems to be the same way.

I played and loved Crysis 1 :p. My only minor beef with C2 so far is that I miss the lush jungle.

I really wish C2 wasn't so hardcore focused on NYC so that maybe they would have included 1 or 2 jungle style multiplayer maps. Or even "in the woods just outside of NYC"..

Fortunately, I remember reading one of the Crytek Admins on mycrysis mentioning that Crytek will certainly be making more official maps as DLC, so I hope these new maps offer a change in scenery.

I'm sure if enough people ask for it, they will bring some jungle maps to the online community.

One modder on crymod mentioned that he thinks the low res textures were out of design.. Meaning, rather than starting with really high res stuff, and just compressing it down to save memory, many textures were 'designed', artistically, as low-res. that way the final product isn't at the mercy of some compression algorithm. if that makes sense. im not even sure if thats the case.

Hope so. If it is as people claim, being the city was used because of draw distance versus the lush jungle with incredible detail, they could just use a 'small island' that isn't insanely dense with foliage over every square foot of the island, AND not have any other islands around it. Just a small island, in the middle of the ocean, nothing in the distance, etc.

I need to get in on some online. I am not a big fan of killstreaks, it's my biggest complaint about COD. But I like that you have to pick up the dog tags of the people you kill to get the killstreaks on Crysis (if they kept it that way from the beta). Makes you put yourself out there to get the AI help.

Yea, dog tags are nice. It really, really helps against campers who sit and snipe and would otherwise pile up killstreaks. This way, you have to go confirm your kill before you get credit for it.

And, honestly, getting the dog tag, especially in a busy area with lots of fighting, can be fun itself. I've been shot a few times steps away from getting the dog tag.

I haven't noticed if the dog tags stay around after you die though, or if you need to collect them during your current spawn.

In the beta, the dog tag disappeared when you died. So you can't snipe and pile up some tags and get killed and get them after your death.

makes sense, because I did find myself want to go find the dog tags after I respawned... this makes going after the tags all the more risky. i got shot down quite a few times trying to run out into an open area to grab a tag.

What the consensus on console vs pc for this game? My pc has an i7 920 and an ATI 4890. I have both a PS3 and Xbox 360 as an option.

I'd say you'll have no prob running that on PC at MED, which will be sharper and faster than either console. I'll probably end up getting both the 360 and the PC version when they go on sale, but that's because I know my friends will want to play MP on Xbox Live, and I'll want to crank the visuals and enjoy the SP on the PC.

I'm at the end-ish of the campaign (
Found Hargreave in his germ free tube thingy about 30 minutes of playtime ago
) and I've really enjoyed it. I've been playing on supersoldier and it hasn't been too bad. checkpoints (or lack thereof) have been my biggest enemy :p.

I'm also enjoying the multiplayer, and I'm not doing as bad as I thought I would. The hit detection is just horrible sometimes, though.

I played a little online over the weekend. I am horrible at it and don't really enjoy the fact that most people sit in cloaking the entire time. I will give it some time, but if it stays like this, I will just go back to Killzone and Halo.

I haven't noticed the majority cloaking (though I personally cloak all the time :D), plus it's pretty easy to see the blur of a cloaker, too. One thing I don't understand, and maybe I'm just crazy, is that if someone melee's me it takes two hits, but every time I try it takes four or five. I don't get it.

Yeah, and you're right about the hit detection. Like I said, I will give it a shot. All my friends that have the game where busy this weekend, so maybe once I play with them I will start to enjoy it more, but my K/D spread is pretty horrible right now.

perception of hit detection might just be lag. I've noticed that hit detection seems better on servers with lower ping.

Beev, try charging your melee. Without charging I can usually take someone down with 2-3 hits. But if I charge it for just a split second, and I power punch, it's 1 hit kill.

They might have armor on.
