Sad day for PC gaming imo. Crysis 2, just another console port. :/

Quick Observations/Notes:

Still no DirectX 11 support

Day 1 Patch used

Uses 3-4 CPU threads hovering around 70% - doesn't scale with CPU after 3ghz

I think I just threw up in my mouth. Fail.

Give it a few weeks, or even less and there will be a DA2 like High Detail texture type pack for PCs.

I feel bad for geforce cards if that happens. Though hey, they helped fund the game so it might look good for them in the end.

Is it me or does the Extreme setting look a lot more blurry compared to Very High?

Extreme #1 vs. Very High #1

Extreme #2 vs. Very High #2

Looks like the Extreme setting adds AA into the picture (compare the 25 mph speed limit sign and the traffic light arm on the top left). However, the result is blurry leaves & details in the tree.
Extreme #3 vs. Very High #3

All in all the difference between High and Extreme is fairly minor. Sure, the Extreme setting adds more details on buildings and better shadows but the graphics are not mind-blowing by any stretch. Ironically I actually prefer the VH to Extreme from those screenshots.

I think you can even play this game at 1920x1080 High on an HD5770 without problems!!

Someone is going to have to do a poll if Crysis 2 is a AAA title, the best AAA title this year. etc Can't declare it a sad console port yet, until I see the single player campaign.

There is going to be a DX11 patch. Lets just slightly chill out and give crytek the benefit of the doubt that DX11 will be out in a few weeks and bring our precious hd voodoo9 TI's to their knee's.

Rumor has it the DX11 patch will bring in Tessellation. The entire NYC will be Tessellated and you'll need nothing less than Tri-SLI 580s to run it. ()🙂

LOL,

I wonder how much they can improve the engine with a patch, its not like they can rewrite the engine with just a patch.

Anyone know if Crysis in Dx9 looks better or worse than crysis 2 in dx9?

I played Crysis 2 at PAX East for a bit and it was absolute crap. I'm very glad I cancelled my pre-order. I do not want to play another generic FPS, there's too many as it is.

FWIW, I also sat for a 20 min. demo of BF3 they had running and can't say I was impressed either, at least as far as single player goes: the graphics were sweet but the gameplay, eh. BF3 is all about the multiplayer though 😀.

From what I saw, Crysis 2 has better shading but the world detail and models are worse.

It literally could do nothing for graphics. They could just add the DX11 pathway to the game and you would be under DX11 with no real difference in visuals.

You can see this in World of Warcraft. You can run it in DX9 or DX11 but it looks the same either way.

Not that I think they'll do this for Crysis 2. But they'd have to do a lot more than just turn on the DX11 'light'. They'd need to release a fairly large patch with new textures, possibly modified maps/levels, etc; in order to actually make the game look different than it does under DX9.

Or maybe as Russian alluded to, they'll just add 5838384372 levels of useless tessellation to make framerates crawl with no visual impact :sneaky:

Either way, those screenshots are pitiful.

Crysis 1 had incredible view distances. A city could be made to look amazing using detailed high view distances, but looking at what they've done, they went the opposite, sparse way.

Sapphire Radeon 6970 @1920x resoutlion + Ultra settings, able to score 95+ fps avg.

Crysis 2 atleast shouldnt be unplayable now.....
Atleast we wont be hearing "but can it play crysis 2?"

Instead the question is "Do I want to play Crysis 2?"
I wasnt a huge fan of Crysis, only reason I got it was to try it out and see how it looked... wanting to see what all the hype about graphics was about.

Do I want to play Crysis 2? No not really...

At this point in time though,... I feel like again I want to see whats next in pc gameing graphics, and so far BF3 is the best looking game out there by the looks of it.

I ll probably get BF3 instead, also because I feel like Id rather support the ones that try for the pc.

Yes it looks like something gone wrong with AA or something, its smoothed out to the point that it becomes blurry and looks better with just very high settings judgeing by those screenshots.

Forget this game. Looks like a stinker anyway, regardless of the graphics.

If you want to push hardware then I suggest BF3 will be the game to look for. Possibly The Witcher 2. Both games look way more interesting anyways.

I'm still getting it. I just want to play it at this point, as it looks fun. Not ground breaking at all, but still fun.

Come and get me 😀
