Cryptocoin Mining?

Alright I'll think about it.
The more I think the more those 7950s make sense for mining, not gaming performance.

Thank you very much for giving me hard numbers to think upon.

Since they are going for $300 each most places or even more, no, its not good value for gaming performance.

R290 is the best bang for buck gaming AND mining. $400 for 880 kHa/s is a good deal.

Can someone help me out there? I'm suddenly getting tons of AMD driver crashes. I've tried reinstalling drivers, and reflashing the BIOS for my 7950 but no luck. It was fine earlier this evening before I attempted the Intel + AMD trick.

Difficulty is rising steadily while prices are fluctuating between $20-40. I think prices are due for a big increase in the next few weeks or so.

Please let me know who has them in stock for $400 lol

I think TD had one earlier for about $410, someone linked it in another thread or maybe it was this one...? Either way, that deal is long gone now.

Gotta keep an eye out for the next one.

I think the reason why he mentioned $400 is because that was their price at release and that's probably supposed to be their MSRP.

Tigerdirect had them for half the day @ $419, nothing crazy like newegg prices. People need to look elsewhere besides Newegg, those prices are ridiculous.

Just found this thread.

I am seeking advice. I've read a lot about bitcoin/litcoin, and want to give it a shot. I want to get all my info/rig set up, and DO IT. I believe DOING IT is the best way to LEARN something. Once I start doing it I can decide for myself if it's something I want to pursue, spend money on, etc. So....

1) I'd like to try for Litecoins. From what I understand that's the best bet right now.
2) I have the rig in my sig - an i5 3570k and a 2GB 6950 with a decent OC.
3) Can someone tell me the best place to start an account?
4) Best program to use to mine?
5) Best place to create a wallet?

Basically, just help getting started on Litecoins. Just want to experiment, do it, and see if I like it / makes sense.

I could have it mining all day and then play BF4 for a few hours in the evening, then turn it back to mining.

I appreciate the help.

Do you need any special drivers? Or just the Intel VGA and AMD Catalyst drivers will do? What if I want to game? Just stop mining and plug the HDMI cable back into my 7950? Would it kill the cable and port if I unplug and plug it in so much?

Edit: Just tried this trick... Tons of driver crashes when I try to do when I connect my monitor to the 7950. None of the temperature reading software works either.

What about using a 2nd monitor to connect simultaneously with the first?

Also, if you just have one monitor, what about using a dummy plug on the video port of the mining card, and then plug your real monitor into the Intel video port?

3) Can someone tell me the best place to start an account?
4) Best program to use to mine?
5) Best place to create a wallet?

3) Start with wemineltc and see how it works for you.
4) Cgminer or Guiminer for scrypt.
5) I'd start sending the coins from the pool to BTC-E, later you can set the wallet locally on your PC if you want.

Thanks to the miners, I just sold my 12 month old 7950 for over $400 on ebay. I paid $270 for it, which included 3 awesome games. I just ordered a 770 GTX for $256 AR and Masterpass from Newegg. So, after ebay, Paypal and shipping fees I have $100 in my pocket and a shiny, new video card.

🙂

I got my two 290's running 24x7 now.

Settled with -t 32k, -w 256, lookup-gap 2, I-20 at 900mhz/1250, undervolted by -12 in Afterburner, is that .12 or .012V?
They both mine at 800KH/s at 87C fans at 60%

Reject rate is around 2%

I like wemineltc.com I think it is one of the best places. They have reliable variable difficulty servers, no pool fee requirement, helpful live user chat, forums, and a nice guide to get you started:

CGminer is the best program. As far as the wallet goes, I have not tried BTC-e yet but I think it is what I will go with. Alternatively, you can just go with the "stock" Litecoin wallet.

^Just be careful about storing your coins on an online wallet. Sites do get hacked and coins stolen once in a while. However, if you intend to trade daily then that would be the way to go.

I gotta admit... sending the Litecoin directly to BTC-e is a good idea. It prevents you from having to pay transaction fees to send them from your local Litecoin wallet (that you download from litecoin.org) to BTC-e for exchange purposes later on.

Can someone make available either cgminer 3.7.2 or GUIMiner-scrypt 0.04?

I'm getting no traction this morning as I try and d/l either of these miners.

Email is listed on my user page here. Thanks!

Just read this post as I was diggin around for BTC-e info and trying to download the wallet:
Please be warned, if BTC-E goes down, so do your coins... don't keep more than you can afford to lose on BTC-E, the safest place for your coins is in the official client wallet from http://litecoin.org

I think I will go with the official wallet for now since I'm planning to wait a while before cashing out.

There's people with a LOT of money on BTC-E, they don't seem very concerned about hacking.
Not saying it's impossible, but if you are moving peanuts, don't worry very much.

I flipped the switch from 290x to 290 mode on my card to see if it helped me with LTC mining.

Strange as with same settings I get about 780MH/s as 290 vs around 600MH/s as 290x.

Custom fan profile at 60% keeps it under 90c....At least when left for work this AM.

Checked my account online and its churning away still.

600 on a 290x? You either gotta tweak it or trash it (sell it). 600 is way too low for a 290x. I get more than that on my 7970.

Is it too late to start litecoin mining with the difficulty increasing sharply every few days? I don't really want to use it as an income source, but it would be nice to pay off the hardware for my new computer build when I'm not using it. I'll be waiting for the non-reference 290s to come out in a few weeks.

Are there any good pools that don't charge a percentage fee to cashout?

Mining on CoinHuntr for the past 2.5h and I didn't get a single LTC. No shares according to their website... Back to WeMineLTC for now.

Its a unlocked 290. Think its bios issue. Can live with results on 290 bios for now. Might try diff 290x bios and see if helps. Maybe intensity too low? Set on i17 so can at least surf web at same time.
