Cryptocoin Mining?

Just bought another 7970 @ $220.

Would prefer another sale of 7950s, but I'll take whatever bang for the buck I can get to add to the farm.

I stopped mining some two years back, uninstalled everything, but kept the wallet.dat as it had some 1.3btc on it. Re-installed Bitcoin client recently but it doesn't show any balance left after sync. Am I missing something or it's just gone?

You have to restore the backed up wallet.dat, google it, lots of guides.

You're kidding, right?

No he's not. They generally run hot, have a crappy cooler, and this one may be voltage locked.

None of which matter to me as it'll be running in super cold ambient temperatures.

Bought an XFX 290 for an attempt at flashing to a 290x (chip lottery, hopefully get non laser cut). We'll see how it clocks once I slap a Gelid cooler on it.

I have a different experience with my 7870 Double D. I love XFX cards, especially their Double D lineup. They have decent coolers, run silent, mine has voltage unlocked, and all Double D cards come with Lifetime warranty. So you basically get a free upgrade once your card fails, which most of them eventually do. Even if all the other things are true, the Lifetime warranty itself makes up for it, at least for me it does.

Around 1100 right now. At what point do I sell these things... 7.5 of them right now.

There's nothing wrong with taking profits, even if it's "too soon" (it's certainly preferable to "too late"), so if you're not comfortable with a pull back, sell some. I would recommend selling some anyway at this point, you should be way ahead. If it breaks to a new high again soon, buy back in (yes, you'll miss some potential gains), but if it reverses immediately after hitting a new high then sell. If it drops below $900 (previous buy point) then sell all immediately, don't ride it back down.

BTC is showing signs of topping anyway.

Wow, it seems everyone went full retard LTC mining. Almost every 7950, 7970, and 280X of any value sold out at the major retailers even at full MSRP or even at a premium!

Black Friday deals have been lame so far as a result, with the exception of the XFX 7970 (around midnight) and the Powercolor PCS+ 7950 (Wednesday)

Agreed.

However, unlike you, I missed them both...

Hoping to get an early start for cyber monday and hoping to get a 7950 or 7970 around $150 or $200 respectively.

I bet you the percentage of people in it who care about efficient algorithms, or cryptocurrency at all is incredibly low compared to the people in it to make money

I think the 7870s are a much better option:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...CE&PageSize=20

They start at just $130 after MIR, you can use a 5% off code if you order with mobile app, sometimes jumps to 10% off if you are patient.

I personally bought two 7870s in the past two months and I am hoping to grab a 7950 or 7970 for LTC mining on cyber monday since I missed out on two 7950s for ~$150 eachafter MIR as well as a 7970 for just $200 after MIR which really made me regret sleeping in 😡

Going to get CF R290 NOW! These babies pay for themselves so fast its a no brainer.

If I do the same, what program/currency should I start mining with - and can those ?coins be used to purchase more hardware? (Or are they only good at certain places/gift cards??)

All I know is LTC>BTC... I'll leave the rest to someone else who has experience cashing out. I just started mining LTC a few days ago.

No doubt a lot of lurkers on tech forums do indeed read these posts and take our advice, my LTC pool's worker count jumped by 6000 additional in the past two days. That's a lot of radeon sales, never to be accounted for by steam surveys, hidden, printing $$.
