Its hard to say but my own feelings on this, no other coin will displace bitcoin, because globally, the infrastructure, investment and business development is purely based on BTC. Every other new coin must co-inhabit BTC's domain and remain a "slave" coin.

The first come first serve phenomenon is very strong.
 
You have to update NXT client almost on a day basis right now to keep forging/mining. Now client is on 0.4.7e.

I love the concept so far. Such a no brainer compared to classic mining. No pools down, no GPU constantly roaring. I'm feeling peaceful 😉

Yeah, but you need a fat stack of NXT to get the best shot at gaining NXT through mining.
 
I still don't quite get the appeal of NXT. Isn't this whole cryptocurrency craze based on the fact that no one has control over how it's distributed? On top of that, it's not even open source yet, only promises of it being so.

I kind of like netcoin, not to make money obviously, but i like it. Name and logo have a relevant feeling. You could pretty easily see it as an online payment. That's already more than most alt. Discrete but pretty examplary so far it seems.
 
Just some random info on thread concurrency, system ram, and hash rates:

I had 8gb of ram in the box with the 290s and I took them out and put in 4gb because my main comp could make better use of it. Well, the previous settings didn't work and Cgminer would throw an error and shut off the GPU. I figured out it was the thread concurrency. I couldn't go above ~30000 with the 4gb of ram, so I dropped down to 24440 (after some trial and error) and lo and behold my hash rates stayed the same.
 
Nextcoin.org and DGEX are under continual DDoS attack in an attempt to kill NXT. It's deplorable and despicable the lengths people will go to in order to make a profit or deny a profit to others.

How is this new? I think every coin and/or their pools have been under DOS at one point or another.

That being said, I'm mining earthcoins and catcoins while the difficulty is low. Gambling that they'll be on an exchange and make a tidy profit.
 
I tried to understand the purpose of Mastercoin. I failed. Totally foggy to me...Anybody got it ???

I like Catcoin, it is basically a bitcoin with Scrypt instead of SHA-256. Great for miners, longer retarget interval, guaranteed block rewards =D
