MtRed is working for me. What pool port are you using?

It was working again later, but even a couple hours of downtime each week unacceptable for me.

You should always run with a fallback server. I just took a look at one of my miners and it looks like its been on the backup pool for most of the day. I'm switching away from mtred as primary for now.

Here's a pretty useful tracking website with no login.

I should but... I have a bad case of the lazy. BTCGUILD has always been pretty reliable for me, so I didn't feel the need to setup a backup. I also have a whole rig with 2X 5850 I'm not even using because it had some problems and I never bothered to fix it, so when I get some extra time that'll have to be my first priority. I'll have to setup a backup pool when I switch to ASIC mining though, for sure.

If you are that lazy then what are you complaining about? CGIMiner has the ability to set backup pools because all pools go down at some point.

Mtred had unacceptable levels of downtime in the past two weeks. Btcguild has been far more reliable for me. Literally no noticeable problems in the last 3 months. I'm lazy enough that I am willing to risk a bit of downtime on btcguild, but I am not going to try my chances on 66% uptime mtred anymore

All of the command-line miners allow the addition of fallback servers right in the batch file you use to launch the miner. I think you can also do this in guiminer - just add this to your extra flags with info from the #2 server: user:pass@server:port (somebody correct me if I got the syntax wrong)

This is my script for poclbm using eclipse as primary and bitparking as backup:
Code:
start /D"C:\Users\me\Desktop\poclbm" poclbm.exe user:pass@us1.eclipsemc.com:8337#US1_EclipseMC user2:pass2@mmpool.bitparking.com:15098 --device=0 --platform=0 --verbose -v -w128 -f60

I use diablo on another machine, and it's even easier - just add additional users, servers, and pass separated by commas, like user1,user2,user3 (same for pass and servers). I have 3 servers defined and the miner never stops due to servers being down. Poclbm seems to crap out on me more frequently than diablo, but poclbm is faster for me on my 6950.

Registration is closed right now, but I've been pretty happy with ABCpool. Used to mine on the ArsTechnica pool before it went tits up.

Been in and out of the bitcoin game for a while, small time only. What I can do with my 6970's only.

I bought the cards for gaming -- I've probably pocketed 80 dollars off and on over the past 6 months. After the last crash I stopped mining (and because Texas summers don't mix well with all the heat from my GPUs)

I've been doing the math and really want to order 3 or 4 of the Butterfly Labs Jalapenos... only problem is the fact you don't really know when you are going to get them, and from what I've seen the first shipment allocations are already filled up. Forking over $500 dollars and sitting around waiting for 3 or 4 months while the difficulty skyrockets just doesn't sit well.

Been playing with the profitibility calc -- it has factors for the block reward, difficulty, investment, all that jazz. We know the reward is dropping to 25BTC per block soon. Difficulty will skyrocket when you start dumping hundreds of GH/s onto the system. If difficulty goes up 10X it would literally take over a year to make my money back on 4 Jalapenos. This is all under the assumption I won't be paying for electricity either (all bills paid rent setup)

Profitibility calc: http://bitcoinx.com/profit/index.php

Now if I had money falling outta my butt I wouldn't hesistate to take the gamble and see if I could have some bitcoin fun, best case scenerio would be getting a few Jalapenos in OCT and mining your ass off before the difficulty shoots up (and it will) that initial window is the only place you have to make fast easy money. Just like when bitcoin started.

If I could have gotten in the initial allocation for a few Butterfly labs units, I would have jumped on it so I could be in the initial wave of people banking and getting their units paid for "for free" in essence. Sure, once ASIC mining hits the streets, GPU's will largely be useless again. Let's say the average casual miner has a crossfire setup pulling down 500-700MHash. Just one Jalapeno 3.6GH/s unit means that five people need to exit the mining game completely for the difficulty to stay the same.

I can't for the life of me figure out why buttefly labs... once they get a shipment together mine themselves for a week or so they would get an amazing amount of BTC and THEN get to sell the units on top of that - essentially double dipping.

Hmm. I already broke down and ordered a single SC since they started offering paypal, but now I have enough in BTC to buy a second one. Should I?

whats the ETA on a single?

I have 100 or so in dwolla, and 4 or 5 more coins I could sell

and some cash in paypal

I would probably cancel my preorder for one jalapeno if I got a single, to move to the 8 pack I guess?

Hmm...a couple of jalapenos are mighty tempting...I just wish I knew when they were actually shipping. The first preorders are already sold out right?

They don't say. AFAIK the first orders are due in Oct, so if you are in the next batch all you know for sure is it will be at least a bit longer than that.

this is what I got in am email:
Shipping of new units is still anticipated to begin late October with the first wave of shipping filled with June orders. We are unable to predict accurate wait times for July and August orders until shipping begins. This will be better addressed by our engineering team once production gets underway.

LOL, end of Oct. for first orders now. This is identical to their BS launch of their first singles. While they did hit the market, the numbers were abysmal, and ending up producing lower hash rates than originally advertised.

This will be no different.

Any idea on how many of their original singles are on the market now? If I had to guess, I'd say ~100, which is funny.

I'm sitting on 606 BTC, hoping to hit $20.00 a coin or die trying.

October was always their launch month. Nothing has changed.

WOW- there's still people out there chasing this dragon?

How many other made-up currencies do you have to convert to get a payout nowadays (if getting a payout, in the form of dollars is even possible)?

Does any mainstream retailor or online vendor/outlet allow you to use BTC today?

Too bad I lost all my wallets, and can't remember which exchange I kept my other coins on...
I haven't been worth this much theoretical money since I posted a youtube video a few years ago!

everyone mining should really drop the endeavor and purchase some solar panels- you know, something that is actually productive for societial benefit?
Scratch that- you all keep mining... I'll buy the panels and sell electricity to you. I only accept hard currency though.

Have you even read anything about Bitcoin? Or any posts in this thread?
