Cryostasis Freezing

Hah, funny topic, not-so-funny problem. I've been trying to get Cryostasis to work(bought from Gamersgate, not sure if that has anything to do with it). I've installed the latest 1.02 Physx patch and the latest Nvidia drivers, but the moment I get control of my character, BAM, insta-freeze! It just doesn't move, which is strange since the opening cutscene works perfectly, it's just when I'm given control that it freezes up. Here's my specs:

2.83ghz e8550 CPU OCed to 3.4ghz
MSI GForce 260 GTX
2x2gb G.Skill 6400 RAM
Installed on a 500 GB Western Digital External HDD

Please help, I really want to get Cryostasis up and running!

I usually go for the highest settings in game. I believe that it might be directly tied to the Physx engine. I wait for a pretty good time, about 5 minutes and it still stays frozen, I have to ctrl alt del and exit the game to get out. It's really annoying and I want to find out how to play it without freezing.

First, this game is physx heavy. I mean really, really heavy. If you don't have the latest gpu drivers installed, this is likely the problem. Go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest video card drivers for your GPU/operating system. The latest GPU drivers also come with the latest version of physx. The lastest version is 195.62.

Also verify that your operating system is completely up-to-date with service packs.

If that doesn't help then I suggest lowering all the in-game graphical settings to the lowest point and seeing if it still locks. If it plays, then mess with each setting one at a time until you get a lock up (then you'll know what the problem is)

Assuming you get the game to work fine, just to warn you it is going to punish your system with physx turned on.

Have you tried turning it to medium settings/disabling PhysX to see what happens? It may just be the your system isn't handling the PhysX load. What tviceman said is absolutely correct, this game is absurdly demanding when it comes to PhysX. My system temporarily freezes for a few seconds when a bunch of icicles shatter because the load is too great for my GTX 285 alone. I don't plan on playing the game until I have time to stick my old 8800GT in as a dedicated PhysX card.

Hm...I just tried one more time to see what's the matter and left it on, it worked! The bad part is, when I save, the game freezes for almost 20 seconds every time...that is going to get ANNOYING! So in short, the game wasn't freezing completely, only taking a long time to save...

Probably because you are on an external hard drive. You will still want to make sure your GPU drivers are up to date because you'll need every last bit of help in squeezing out all the performance that you can with that game.

If you haven't played this game you should. It has one of the most innovative and interesting stories I've ever seen in a video game. It's right up there with Bioshock.

It suffers from performance issues, but if you've got the hardware necessary for it, then give the developers some money for this game that actually took risks instead of following industry trends.

Everything from the health system, to the flashbacks, to the metaphorical enemies just screams innovation like I haven't seen in years. With all the cliched modern warfare stories and fantasy games this is a game that should not be missed.

Problem is that there rarely was a sale on the game, I was waiting for one until Gamersgate sold it for about $7, couldn't pass up that kind of deal!

Problem is, I played the demo and couldn't kill anybody. I had 3 or 4 weapons 10 minutes into it. As soon as I have to play like the same area 5+ times, especially on a demo..... I'm good.....Thanks.

I didn't know there was a playable demo for cryostasis. I knew there was a tech demo showcasing physx, but that it wasn't really "playable."

Can you link the demo to this thread so I can see what you're talking about?
