Cryis Beta Is Now Open

I don't want a fileplanet membership, so I'll wait for the 'Open' demo if it ever comes out ... or I'll just buy the game when it is in stores 😛

EDIT: OK I got a free account and started DL

uhh, Sorry you do not meet the hardware requirements for the beta. 🙁 anyone wanna give me a key by chance?

Clear your cookies, go do it again, and put that you have the highest 8800, 2GB of RAM, and a n Intel Quad Core. You'll get in. =) Hey, anyone know how to give feedback to Crytek for the beta?

@SilthDraeth, Yes.

The game starts fine for me - I can customize settings and everything. But once I get into actual gameplay, the screen basically turns into weird artifacts. It's like my video card is overheating, except it's not. I also got the latest Nvidia drivers to make sure. Yes, my system technically doesn't meet the beta requirements. But that means it should just run badly, not fail to run. My 6800 has all the latest gizmos and gadgets except Shader Model 4.0, which isn't used.

Is the Beta loaded with Securom, or some other nasty copy protection? Not sure I want to install in that case, and could not find the info in the encylopedia sized eula.

Don't worry for those who got keys - it's not really playable. It crashes a minute or so after I get into a game, and it crashes on exit too.

I have not had that happen despite a lot of playing. the beta may not be a good match for your system

That doesn't mean everybody will have problems.

Same here - well..except the artifacts seem to go away after a bit [maybe the graphics are loading into memory] or if I push escape and then return to gameplay.

And I've had problems with the game "crashing" upon exit.

And I too don't see what the hype is about ...yet. We are beta'ng the multiplayer aspect, so maybe there is more to the single player campaign.

I am having a tough time though with seeing what all the hype was about.

Me too.

The selling point for this game will be Single Player. Even Multiplayer in Far Cry wasn't much but I enjoyed the Single Player.

Yeah, the single player will be completely different (IIRC they have two completely separate teams working on single & multi) and I can't wait for it. WTF ever happened so SP betas? 🙁

So, am I the only one here not being able to connect to any servers ?

I've been trying since yesterday morning and so far no go, it always fails.

By the way guys anyone know if I got to forward specific TCP/UDP ports for that game ?

none that i can tell. my pings have been fine. unless crysis uses the same ports as diablo/starcraft.

I did not really enjoy playing this. It ran fine, fast enough, and it didn't crash. The gameplay wasn't my speed although it looked pretty good. I am looking forward to single player.

OH MY GOD !

*calms down*

Ok I managed to play a game, finally. I am absolutely amazed by the game's optimizations (if any). If there are none because it's a "Beta" then all I can say is that Crytek are pure genius. Here's the deal ...

You guys can see my system in my sig ? Well, that rig, with the following in-game settings:

Everything at High, no A-A, 4x A-F, DX9, 1280x960

And I get a constant 40 to 45 FPS ! Yes, constant ! So far, according to my FRAPS tests I've only dropped to the 30's for perhaps a few seconds. And the graphics at those settings, even though it's DX9, are absolutely superb ! The details even on the foliage is amazing. And the wild animals roaming around, the chickens, the frogs, the birds, the crabs ... and the water is ... guys, the WATER is mind-blowing ! But what about the game-play itself ? Well I absolutely loved it. It has a sense of action, strategy AND exploration/cover-in-environment style that curiously reminds me of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s MP as well.

I have encountered around two or three bugs so far, two graphical and one related to the sounds (repeating, looping gunshot sounds which requires a game restart or just quiting the server back to the main menu), and it seems pretty stable. I think the biggest goal for the Beta isn't the visual or auditive bugs though, but really more about balance. I haven't played for too long to tell much about balance, but it seemed to be alright so far. The suits functions were working very well, the controls are VERY responsive ... and so much more.

Overall, I am impressed. In fact, I kind of lowered my expectations in advance, to avoid being disappointed, but honestly, the MP Beta alone already shows that Crysis will be, surely, a great hit, perhaps the greatest PC hit ever. Time will tell, of course, but I think that Crytek are slowly but surely getting over even Valve's production quality, and that's ain't saying little.

personally.. crytek = the new carmack. cryengine 2 is godly between graphic prowess and scalability.

i really hope crysis succeeds, because crytek is simply brilliant.

i WILL be buying this game for sure.

True. But isn't the game coming out in a little over a month? If the MP beta is any indication, I'll wait and pick up the game next year for $10 from gogamer when I have a PC with 8 cores and 4 video cards and 32GB of DDR6.

I started playing Beta3 today (new client is dated 1.Oct) which incorporates lots of recent fixes map additions and stuff. And boy am I impressed.
I won't say much only that it is indeed very playable on 1440x900 and everything high. Wanted to just fool around a little and I played for 11 hours straight. Powerstruggle is great. I didn't have this much unique fun since the Battlefield 1942 Beta with only Wake Island included. Ah and the viewing distance...puts Oblivion to shame with it's stupid low res lod.
Sadly I can't say much more...
