Ok,
Recently my display has been doing funky and Not-So-Cool things, where it shimmers/wobbles/flickers. It's difficult to describe, but it's as if the whole image is moving up and down really fast, but very slightly. It gives me a tremendous headache after about three minutes of viewing. It's most pronounced at the bottom right of the screen, and if I'm displaying a white page (for example) it seems to flicker darker and lighter, as if it were some insanely fast strobe-light or something.
I purchased a new monitor last week, figuring that the one I had was getting old (two or three years of almost constant use), but the problem persists. It's just not quite as bad. Both montiors are 17" CRT, the old one being an KDS Avitron, and the new one being a Samsung SyncMaster 753DF. Now, the Samsung was pretty cheap, so I'm wondering if MAYBE I'm just unlucky and should buy a better model.
I've tried adjusting the MHz frequency on both, and the problem gets greater or lesser depending, but never goes away completely. I'm running a P4 2.53 Ghz, with an Asus A7V8X Motherboard, a gig of RAM, and a Radeon 9800 video card (with another 128 megs of RAM), and my desktop is set to 1024X768. I've tried dropping from 32 Bit color to 16 Bit, but the problem persists. I've toyed with the video hardware-acceleration, from Full to None, with no change.
Several weeks ago I upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro, and added another half-gig of RAM (Same brand and type), but the problem seems to have started more recently. *As of this morning, the new monitor has been corrupting the top 1/2 inch of the screen, looks as if it's been shifted to the right and to the left, so as to make a snazzy zig-zag effect. Switching the resolution and switching back solves this particular problem. It doesn't happen on the older one, I've swapped 'em out half a dozen times. So maybe it is indeed a craptacular new monitor, and a dying old one. I have no clue.
I'm about to start crying. I'm completely baffled. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks!
