Mostly because people suck.
I guess they think that bread isnt the same as all the rest of the bread they were just eating.

If we're talking about bread, I *love* the end slices, such as Brownberry's Health Nut or OatNut breads...if I could buy an entire loaf of just end pieces, I would...mmm...Don't understand what's not to like about it, they tend to be thicker too.
 
Many people who don't like crust tend to not like burned cheese either; I'm not talking about blackened, but like golden brown *drool*
