Hey, I'm probably preaching to the choir, but I just discovered this and thought I'd let you guys know...

P4 Performance

With inadequate cooling on a P4, the UD Grid client was driving my cpu temp to it's threshold and throttling was kicking in... my performance was below an amd 2ghz (i have a p4c 3.0ghz).

Good idea to check your cpu temps and make sure they stay low for best performance if you're running a P4.

Very interesting! I bought a Mobo and AthlonXP 1800+ last year from someone on this forum and it was taking over 9 hours to run a WU. I tried every thing we could think of and it still sucked@SETI! It would do fine on benchmark, but SETI just didn't run right. I swapped the CPU and no change. I bought a cheap mobo (ECS K7S5A) from Fry's and all was well. I stuck the problem mobo in the closet where it still sits. I'm wondering if it might have had a thermal throttle of some kind? Maybe I should play with it some more.
